re: Remember when JD wasn't throwing down the field?

The offense isn’t performing and there’s no way that was the game plan
Preaching to the Choir. There are ignorant people who are believing the "injury" is the entire reason the offense is struggling and believe that is why we can't run block lmfao. And another portion believe this is what Kelly wants due to his defense being good. Make the game ugly and win a close game. Lord have mercy.

Agree
Plus, his QB had a torso thing

Brian Kelly has said this himself multiple times now.

I think he's managing the game to win, not look pretty. I know that sounds elementary, but he's purposely leaning on the defense
I will suggest that this philosophy is a bad one…unless you think there’s no chance of developing into a team where trying to push the ball downfield is no longer a liability.
In this modern day of college football, you can survive a frickup. But I don’t think you can win a championship without becoming the absolute best team you can be by the end.
It’s clear that our biggest weapons only matter if we are pushing the ball downfield.

No moron. He was calling plays that kept the ball closer to the los.

I would rather him open up the playbook so we know what we have and build some confidence for the tougher matchups coming up. Also players, specifically the backup quarterbacks, will have zero experience and confidence if nuss goes down.

Remember in JD's first season it seemed like he wasn't throwing the ball down the field at all.
He also wasn’t throwing unless the receiver was wide open, would tuck it and run if his first read wasn’t there, was scared to throw it to the middle of the field, and his few deep balls we’re badly off target. His improvement from his 1st to 2nd year at LSU was amazing. Not sure how any of that applies to the current situation

JD got better when the O-line, playmakers and scheme got better around him. The biggest myth is that Bk performed some kind of voodoo magic on Jayden to turn him into a heisman quarterback.
There’s plenty of film of Jayden making plays and throwing the ball down field at Arizona state. Once he adjusted to the speed of the SEC he was great.

Kelly was pretty clearly frustrated with JD at times for not throwing the ball downfield

The ole pull It down and run isn’t available to us in our current capacity. He needs to get healthy and sling it around the yard for us to get what we want.

That’s just stupid. This is not some cace of Kelly playing 4D chess and everybody is just not as smart as him. This is a case of LSU having absolutely no offensive philosophy whatsoever.
Great defense or not, you don’t have a highly touted offense with a Heisman front runner simply doing just enough to get by. And if Nuss truly is hurt, he needs to sit against Southeastern.

All we heard about all offseason was Nuss had to be better at taking care of the football. BK said so himself several times, so I’m sure that Nuss got the point. There are a lot of problems with this offense but the combination of Nuss being more conservative in his targets and being injured during camp is what I think we’re seeing in the passing game.
He’s still thrown a couple picks and the FL pick was terrible but we haven’t seen him throw the 50-50 balls we did last year. Maybe if he gets healthy we’ll see better downfield targets from him. The biggest issue we have on offense right now is the right side of our o line.

This may be a controversial opinion, but i dont think the oline was that great under JD either. He ran out of a lot of tight pockets. The running game wasnt great under JD that last year for that matter. Dude had 1k rushing on scrambles. Idk if its a scheme thing or what but there is no reason LSU should be running into brick walls as much as they do. And its been a few years of this now.

I do remember that, but it wasn’t Kelly stopping him. Kelly was trying to get Jayden to take some chances. He said that we don’t want a lot of interceptions but there is such a thing as too few.
Yeah Kelly was getting on him all year to throw downfield with confidence.

My point exactly! Putting the "brakes on" to me means punting when necessary and gain field position control. NOT run a WR screen on 3rd and 2 and also go 3-and-out on your first 3 drives.
