I'd be willing to bet a sg starts over Sims at the 3. He's not a natural wing player.

love how wade isn't just accepting the shite roster left for him and is trying to make us as competitive as possible next season

I love the energy in that regard, but I also think we're going to see some of the guys coming back weren't as shitty as they appeared to be as Wade's energy will also be focused on some of the things the previous staff was unable to instill.

Like moving without the ball and playing defense?

and blocking out, hustling consistently, being accountable, switching properly on ball screens, rotating properly.

You'd be amazed how much better players that do these simple little things look than when they don't. I think it will be evident pretty early the talent, while certainly not elite - don't get me wrong, wasn't as bad as some think it was.

This is my thought as well. I'm really excited to see what Mays (among others) can do with a little bit of coaching and discipline. I really think he could be special

Combs played three seasons at UNT and was one of Conference USA's most productive players throughout his career before running into injury problems his junior season.

This is a total guess but I would say either Patterson or Hayward with an outside chance of it being Elbert Robinson. Patterson because he had a bad year and Mays and Daryl Edwards will get more playing time. Hayward looked like he could be a good player but needs a lot of coaching and development. Elbert is a senior and it would be exchanging one senior big man for another.

It has to be Elbert. Hayward is only a soph and still can be developed under the new staff. Hopefully Patterson realized he had quite the shitty year, finds some heart, and is working his arse off because he could be an asset. He was so solid that last Martin/Mickey year as a freshman, just never seemed like he had the attitude to be a great player.

Elbert is just a practice body. Only way they keep him is if we somehow just can't play the season this year without a 5 min/game giant to come in and get maybe 2 boards at the cost of 4 fouls.

Seems like a nice addition.
The bigger news is that Wade is retooling the roster. It also changes the milieu. I am not sure what it is or was but there appeared to be a malaise among the players. Something just never seemed right within the team. (Aside from discipline and x/o's)

Never seemed like he had the "attitude" to. E a great player? He was always going to be a role player. His attitude has also always been great. He is a true team player.

Combs will really help us running the press. We got alot more hustle with this team then we have any recent years. Defense will be focal point until Wade can really hit ground recruiting next season

Went from a freshman starter on a tourney team to always being a role player? Not sure what you saw. He was a top 100 recruit out of a powerhouse school. I'm sure Johnny had a lot to do with it but he played with no fire last year and some guys on the new staff were ready to get under his arse. Is he the next Westbrook? Absolutely not. Does he have the potential to be GREAT? Dont think so, but in the mind of an athlete you dont peak at role player

Double, double guys can play on my team anytime.

I am hard on Alleva and still want him gone, but it seems his third try at getting a basketball coach here might be the charm.

I'm pretty excited to see what GH can do with Hayward. Has the tools just needs the coaching and experience. Remember, he played some terrible competition in Australia so there was always going to be a learning curve

The only reason he was a freshman starter on that tourney team was because we were awful at the guard position.

He was never a top 100 recruit out of high school. He was absolutely a 3 star prospect.

Hell, Elbert Robinson was a 4 star prospect. He was never going to be a Darrel Mitchell, Torris Bright, or even an Anthony Hickey.

Roll player at best all four years. Show me who rated him as a top 100 recruit? Most of us that have followed LSU basketball thru the years knew he would be nothing more than a serviceable role player.

I absolutely love that this kid has graduated as a Junior. To me, thinking about the dynamics of this team, that could be even bigger than his game stats.
