With MB he needs to come in and run the offense in game situations since he is one play away from being the starter

Wouldn't mind him running a series or two every game ala Mickey Guidry.

I think 2017 Tennessee was about as bad of a Tennessee team as there has been since Fat Phil was Phired.

2012 Auburn says "Hold my beer"

2011 UF was bad...but whatever year UF had the two players blocking each other...versus Georgia Southern...in a loss. Buzz your girlfriend.. WOOF!

and Ole Miss has been so up and down that you're probably right but that 2016 team couldn't stop a cold. That was one of the worst defenses. They were pretty bad on defense in 2017 and 2018 too, but at least they scored a bunch.

TL;DR - I'll concede Ole Miss, but as to the other 3...naw.

Lee was in on the last series. He didn't do diddly poo other than hand off. But he was in.

This is just as cringe as I remember it being 7 1/2 years ago.

Well it was obvious Miles didn't trust Lee or Mett to play vs Alabama. Seems maybe getting Mett prepared couldn't have hurt at all
Lee had something like career 1/7 /TD/INT vs Bama irrc.
Mett wasn't ready then and not really ready Sept '12. Where's the profit with installing an unprepared, immobile QB behind that awful OL performance and possibly losing your starter for 2012?

I guess you could argue Miles should've made Mett #1 from spring and started him in Sep '11, or gave him the reps spent on JJ. Seems I recall a problem with playbook retention though.

it was like Miles' 4th or 5th best offense.

which is what the thread is about...the offense.

Yikes. I bet Ms. Orgeron does not approve.

Honestly Mett should’ve been given a chance to start. Go look at the major outlets and publications, a lot of them predicted that it would be Metts job from day 1, that’s how much better he was than the other 2. Miles was just too stubborn and too in love with JJ to ever let that happen. I remember when we were on that early roll with Lee and Miles was asked what he’d do when JJ was finally available, his response was “I’m gonna put him on the field as soon as I can.” I don’t know of another time an undefeated #1 team with a QB leading his conference in passer rating was ever pulled for another QB, and boy did it cost us big.

Did anyone ever find out why Miles hates Lee? With how he treated him in 2011 there’s no questioning the disdain.

We won that year because defense and special teams were insane... Also Tyrann Mathieu.
Offense was solid, nothing great. I remember the offense seriously degrading under JJ. In retrospect the whole season was totally weird.

What was wrong with that? The guy had started 2009, 2010. Did you expect him to never play again? We lose the first Alabama game without him. That should be clear to anyone who watched Lee self destruct...again against Alabama.

When I pulled up that SEC CG footage in response to Roger, it made my blood boil.

I think I had blocked it out my mind, like some sort of PTSD response. Sorry to repeat myself, but the fact Miles put Lee in just to kneel was atrocious, it honestly felt like Miles trolled Lee.

I understand if you wanna throw a frosh out there so your starter doesn’t get hurt in some freak accident. So go let Mett kneel it. Lee started 9 games that year. He deserved better than that.

Win the championship? Seems kind of important.

Looking at JJs stats the last two games, you don't think the possibility of using another QB would have actually hurt? That's the worst stretch of QB play I can ever remember.

Clemson won a championship by making a bold move this season. There is no upside to "save" a year for elite players anymore.

JJ wasn't a bad QB, but neither him or Lee were full time starter material. We had three QBs, there was no reason to stick with one.

That's how it looked at the time. Going back to the first half of the Arky game all the way to the end.

JJ did have a much better third quarter vs Arkansas though

“Made Mett #1”

So, the thought process now, for some, is that we should’ve taken a new to the program and new to SEC game action QB and just awarded him the starter job rather than 2 seasoned SEC Sr guys who the season before had helped LSU to a 11-2, top 8 ranking?

That doesn’t seem like the brightest of college football plans, but each do our own.

Yeah that's about the best of the 2011 "play someone else at QB" scenario I can fathom though.
I guess the staff didn't think it was a reality to have him ready in time even if treated as the starter in camp, but iirc Mett had a pretty good Spring Game, and by some media accounts should've taken #2 spot from Lee.

Most coaches would've run what got them there, especially with the QBs available. Even Mett with another camp was avg at best until mid '12. Disagree?

I agree. I'm not sure why the downvotes on my post. It's clear we would have had a better shot at the natty in 2012 had Les run what got us there undefeated.
