A sad day for us Tigers. What an awesome man he was. Accomplished everything he could accomplish, hit a pothole, owned up to it, never lost his dignity, yet an humble man.

Billy Cannon.... not a perfect person, but a perfect example of a humble legend and a true redemption story. Rest in Peace Dr. Cannon.

As a 12-13 yr old in his LSU heyday, it's hard to express. My two heroes as a kid were Audey Murphy (WWII medal of honor) and Cannon. God, we pray for his soul. He left so many memories for the people of LA, kids that idolized him and turning his life around to a greater good in repentance.
God bless his soul.
God bless his soul.

Rare that he gets credit for this, but it is an absolute fact and it was non-stop sporting news in that time. First thing I did each morning, get up and read sporting news to see what the latest was! Signed $100K bonus and contract under goal post (OILERS!!!) as the photo and story goes following Ole Miss' shellacking in 1960 (Jan 1)after the '59 '89 yd TD run.

All heart! Need a statue on campus.
We all know why it hasn't happened to this point. Perhaps it would now meet the political correctness standard of forgiveness. LSU's most celebrated and decorated footballer of all time.
RIP Mr. Cannon

Thank you Billy, You'll always be remembered
I'll never forget when he and Scooter Purvis came to visit the elementary football team I played on at St. Agnes.
The Stabler Brothers were the Coaches and they invited them to come and talk to us. I remember that neither had all their front teeth. God Bless you Billy

When I was in HS a friend of mine and I were trying to buy tickets for an Auburn game (the cigar game fwiw) outside the gate. This older man who happened to be Cannon taps me on the shoulder and handed me two lower bowl tickets on the 45 yard line and told us to enjoy the game. Rip Billy, great dude.
