I think we're at the point where not only does a new hire need to be made but Miles needs to relinquish some control on that side of the ball to restore confidence from the fans. And that will only happen when it's proven on the field.
It feels like an impossibility which is why people are so upset and we're helpless to do anything about it.
And the sky is in fact not falling, we just have to bank more on luck than we'd like to.
Just my take on the situation.

I'm not saying he couldn't hav been used a little more efficiently. The plays he got were all basically end arounds. Of course he's going to have a better ypc than the guys running up the middle.
Some of his longest runs were behind the line.

I'm not dogging shep. Love the kid and what he's about. But he isn't Percy harvin. Just saying he was a WR that didn't put up results like obj and Landry.
He went to the wrong school. I am just interested why he didn't leave.

Now, why shep never took a snap at QB? Who knows. Especially during the JJ/Klee debacle. But we weren't practicing with them to know what he could do. Being a running QB in the SEC you best be top notch.
He chose LSU because they promised him a chance to compete at QB which is strange, since no other decent team recruited him as a QB. I think it was a charade.

But the point is we'll never know if he could have been a Percy Harvin type player because he was never used like that at LSU. You are making that assumption, but it's inaccurate because Les Miles believes in 3 yards and a huge cloud of dust. Why couldn't have Shepard been used like Harvin with a lot of mis direction shite that suited his talents. Line him up next to the QB and either hand it off to him going in another direction like Tebow did with Harvin or pass it to him out the backfield. Miles never employed none of that!

Its bad enough people can predict what we do. Do we really need more single player focused packages? we can't just change our offense for each player.

Ok I love RS10 and was hoping he made a impact.
But let's be real he had a big run v/s auburn
Freshman year. Since then all his big plays came
Against very bad competition guys. Not saying
He didn't flash from time to time. But he didn't deserve
PT over Landry or othe WR this year.

You are right LSU is predictable and that is the problem. People know Miles is going to line up and play smash mouth with his big backs, so they stack the box. But if you changed pace every now and then, and that's football, nothing about accomodating a players skill set. You can throw them off from stacking the box. Shepard is a change of pace player that can come in on different downs, line up next to the Qb and be handed the ball off on a mis direction play that could get a first down or better take it to the house. He can also be passed to, but you can't just be predictable all the time and that is what LSU has become.

One of the problems with LSU's offense is that it can't deal with diversity. It does a few things well, and only does those well when it's run to perfection or the opponent is totally outmatched.
Many schools don't have issues incorporating different styles into their offense, but with LSU, it probably takes away from practice time working on that slant or dive.

you didn't even bother to read the part about Joe Horn, did college people help him get to the NFL?? frick No!

....talent alone huh? Coaching has nothing to do with it? Football players leave high school already capable of going to the NFL is basically what you're saying? No coaching is needed? They're refined enough to head to the pros immediately?

And by most accounts, he got that chance and obviously wasn't good enough
If a kid isn't good enough in practice alone, why in gods name would you put him in a game and risk a lot more than just practice time?

Already said it's a waste of time debating brain dead people, and you defintely are. Others on here easily knew what I was talkin about, but there is always one mute out the bunch.

They let him compete for qb and he wasn't good enough. If he was so he'll bent on being a qb, he should have gone to Southern where he could have possibly been a qb. I appreciate what Shep has done for LSU, but the dude needs to show some class and get on with the rest of his life.

No one actually expected him to "compete" at QB. It was just to get him here. Darren Thomas wasn't even recruited as a QB and his passing skills were far superior to Sheps.

we did it sometimes, just not that consistently. and it all but disappeared when Crowton left.

can you link me where all of these promises were made to RS?
Posted on 1/1/13 at 6:38 pm to tucotiger
Watching the Rose Bowl, both teams have play packages that would suit RS's skill set...even if its only 3-4 touches per game...Good coaches figure out what players do best and put them in a position to succeed...We all know what plays will be run for Ford when he is in at RB, don't we? More often than not, those plays to Ford have a positive outcome...
