Franchione knew the Saban speech was BS. But he still used it as bulletin board material, and Saban walked off the field with his tail between his legs after the postgame meeting at midfield. He was shocked, as if Franchione had told him that he fricked Saban’s wife.

I’m thinking LSU playing poorly and BAMA playing lights out probably had more to do with it...
But like I said, the guy felt terrible about the fallout. Both because he’s a huge LSU fan and alumnus and because, at least st the time, he, like most of us, respected Saban and did not want to cause a ruckus.
That was really the first time any of us really had an understanding of how much power message boards and what was posted on them could have in terms of altering opinion and affecting programs. It was kind of sobering how fast it moved despite being 100% untrue.
