The term Honky comes from black brothels.
White men couldn't be seen entering them, so they would park nearby and honk their horns. The black whores would refer to them as honkies.

I understand and agree that is what some are calling the double standard, I just don't agree that it is.
IMHO the fact that maybe 5% of whites are offended by it, if that - the fact that it was coined by blacks to counter the N-word is irrelevant. It didn't really serve it's intended purpose, is not really offensive and I can say that as a white man. For me the word is so harmless and inoffensive to me as to be comical that some, however few, would be offended by it in this context.
