we looked pretty good early in the season and it looked like we would improve, then rhode island happened and our season was complete poop the rest of the way going up and down. the height was drubbing uk and arky in back to back games but then we just fell apart

Did you go to any of the games to start the season?
The expectations were predicated on having a top 10 recruit ball one and done style, having Malik Morgan take a step forward, Tim q providing quality minutes etc. If you watched from beginning of the season to end a large portion of those did not happen. JOB, hickey and stringer played to how they have done the past 3 seasons very well but with limitations. JOB gets in foul trouble and hickey and stringer can get shot over when the opposite side has two tall guards. Ive watched Tennessee do that 3 years in a row. Morgan and Tim Q were supposed to help avoid that.
As shown by UK the past 3 years-you can have you blue chips come in and wreck shop or come in and play like freshman. Ours (who were supposed to be the reason we took a step forward) played like freshman.
I went to or watched every minute of every game from UMass until tonight. The expectations were predicated on the fact that LSU returned 4 starters (one an all SEC first teamer), had a 2 year starter at PG, AND added a top 10 class. Only UF in the SEC could say the same.
LSU offense is very stagnant in the half court. The only time they really got anything going was if JOB could fight through double-teams, or if they got out in transition. The entire offense centered around getting the ball to JOB. He was double teamed from the first game on, yet LSU's offense rarely made anyone pay for it. We far to infrequently saw Martin or Mickey slash to the bucket when JOB was doubled. The player who made the entry pass failed to get in good position for JOB to get it back out. There was no flow, no crispness.
Hickey and Stringer were contested a lot, because the framework of the offense didn't allow them to get a lot of open looks. LSU allowed Martin to be essentially just a spot up below avg 3 point shooter. We saw tonight what kind of impact he can have attacking the basket, but that was rarely a part of the offense.
Defensively they were as bad fundamentally as I can remember ever seeing a LSU basketball team. For this group, the sum of the total was not greater than the individual parts. There were some really talented players on this team. However, as a TEAM, this staff did very little to get much out of them

Martin was Always flying in for put back dunks, you don't know how many times I was thinking, damn, he needs to be more involved.

Ahh well, one more win than last year. Hope for better next year!

This has been a problem all season. It's something the returning players will need to learn if they want a tournament appearance in the future.

Martin was way over hyped. He is a talented freshman but not nearly as good as advertised. Lets see how much better he is next year.
This team lacked consistent outside presence.
Also, Job going pro may be a blessing.
Cant say i love cjj's coaching but i will give him a chance.
Will miss coleman and stringer.

it really felt like we rarely played to our strengths this year

To whatever extent one might believe our talent was overatted for me it boils down to this team was not coached up, and regressed as the season unfolded.
We too often looked undisciplined, uninspired and unprepared.
I'll reserve judgement on the future and give CJJ the benefit of the doubt to make the philosophical and other changes that will be needed, as he is signing guys that on paper should make us better.
But last year and possibilities for the future do not for me excuse the product this year. Very disappointing however it is rationalized.

I feel the same way, but any change in coaching in philosophy is going to have to come from within. Unless one of the assistants wants to leave on their own there are not going to be any changes to the staff. Mickey and Martin will be better just due to the fact that they should be physically better prepared, and have a year of experience. However, the the issues on this team went far deeper than just the inexperience of a few key players

I agree, I felt outside of the two game stretch of the ice dome vs UK and then whipping arky we regressed after beating UAB.

14 FT's to 41? How is this possible?

one team attacks the boards, attacks the basket and then also gets some insanely bullshite fouls while the other plays hot potato with the ball and hangs out on the 3 line for most of the game.
