In the defense of the BRPD, they reached out to Collins camp directly on Saturday. After four days he did not respond to their request for questioning.

should everyone in the city have their rights suspend because someone got murdered?
Name one right that was suspended.
I'll wait.

Think about it people, BRPD notifies Collins that they want to speak to him about a friends murder in which she may or may not have been pregnant with his child. Next thing they know, he has the best defense attorney money can buy by his side and is in no hurry to speak with them. Don't think for one minute that the NFL hasn't hired PI's to check into this before draft day. All of a sudden his name is off the board. They know more than we do about this whole thing. The police may say he's not a suspect but that doesn't mean shite. I'm sure they have an agenda that we know nothing about. Sit back and get surprised!!!

is collins not allowed to hire a defense attorney? It would be incredibly stupid for him to speak to the police without an attorney present no matter how much they say he isn't a suspect. If I'm contacted by the police for something like this, my first call is going to be a lawyer.

I'm sure he might be a great guy and it's unfortunate that this has happened right before the draft for him, but the police are doing their job. A woman has been killed and they have to question any and everybody. And of course it will get spread all over and blown out of proportion. That's the world we live in today unfortunately. People blaming the police or the media are just flat out stupid. This would go the same way in any other state.

I never said any right was suspend, the poster was just suggesting that everything in the city should stop for a murder. I don't think everything needs to stop or be a public spectacle. If BRPD tried to do this behind closed doors and Collins fricked it up then that is on him. If they got upset over him getting a lawyer its a different game. Ill wait for all the facts to come out before blaming brpd or vindicating their actions.

Then why leak this to the public. Why do we even know about this. The answer is while the department SAYS he is not a suspect, they continue to treat him otherwise. As citizens of the united states and louisiana we have certain rights yet through the power of public opinion and the media these rights continue to crumble. If he is not a suspect as you say and is not being arrested then unless they get a subpoena for him to speak with them it is his right not to do so. Yet the department has circumvented this little annoying detail by leaking this to the media in hopes he would be forced to speak to them not by law but by public opinion.

Blame social media and media in general. ITS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN NOW! Nothing is "secret" anymore. It's unfortunate. Yes, but it is what it is and it's not ever gonna change it's only getting worse with times.
Especially when you are a person well known.

I dont know how it's the BRPD fault. They're just doing their job. I think it's squarely on the NFL GMs and teams that get spooked if someones shite is crooked.

Would you chance your team and giving millions to a guy that may be at fault? You cant blame them for this.

Collins should take a year off and look for the real killers and then reenter the draft

ill roll with that. it initially seems like it could be done more delicately. if an ex was killed and the NOPD called my boss and asked my boss if i could get a day off to talk to me about a murder investigation and refuse all other comments -- id be a bit peeved. but if i had been sending their calls to voicemail for a week.... well....
we will see.

Who tipped off Schefter???

That's just the thing. Nobody knows the entire story nobody. Do you think they should all just trust him? Ha! It's a very unfortunate situation, but nobody is to blame over any of this.

He should've flown to BR that day, had cameras with him, gave a speech about senseless violence and how he feels for the family, then had brpd issue a statement that he's not a suspect.
Bingo... Always jump out in front of the story and control the narrative. I don't blame him though, his mindset probably wasn't in the right frame to understand the severity of what could happen by being so nonchalant. He distanced himself which is a natural reaction.

Lulz at everyone saying this. I'm thinking yall don't understand what your actual rights are.

there's a whole lot of LSU fans blindly defending La'el and bashing BRPD while BRPD hasn't even said La'el was a suspect
Posted on 5/1/15 at 8:26 am to Negative Nomad
if all they wanted to do was talk to him why didn't they just call him?
