right...why get five studs from Houston when we can get just two
Please tell me you're being sarcastic. We nab the 2 very best recruits (according to ESPN) in the state competing against the likes of Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M, and you think we could do better? Believe me I wish we could. But try and be a little realistic here.

i say keep all SEC teams out of the dome. why give one of your rivals the chance to show off in your state??

That would be awesome to have a home and home with yall. You can't go wrong with two of the top programs going at it every year.

LSU would never go on the road to play rice anyway.

What is the better option: playing Washington in Seattle or playing Rice in Houston?
I hope we never get the sense of complacency that I got from your post...

Not sure how accurate it is, but it speaks of the lengths that Texas might take to keep LSU from getting additional exposure in the Houston area, which is known to produce great athletes.
If true, it seems Texas is concerned about our ability to pull the cream of the Texas crop.
They are more scared of us than we are of them.

As for LSU playing the weenies, there's an article in the Picayune today that references LSU wanting to get the remaining 7 games of the series played in Tiger Stadium. The weenies are fighting it of course. The weenie PR hack says no changes are expected. LSU's PR comment is that there are no changes as of now.

I am not shocked if that is happening, Texas and Texas A&M are scared to death of LSU stealing recruits. I say go ahead and apply this to Tulane. They will probably cry like a little twat and bitch about it in the media. But LSU doesn't need to play Tulane, they absolutely gain nothing from doing it. I say drop Tulane and play a non conference game agianst a mid-major every other year in the Superdome.

Chicken,
I'm thrilled that we got the #1 recruiting class and received commitments from the best players out of Texas just as well if not better than UT and better that TT and A&M. You're damn right I'm complacent about that. Is that not enough for you?
Its the best recruiting class in the history of our school.
All I said was I don't think it matters much. Of course I think we should strive to get better. I just believe destroying Rice in Reliant Stadium isn't going to make that much difference.

Notre Dame is playing Baylor in the Superdome. It's part of Notre Dame's ongoing quest to never play in an opponent's home stadium again, except for USC and Michigan. Seriously.

Did you read the story? It's messed up. They were going to play Baylor in Dallas, but Notre Dame was going to be the home team. All the TV contract stuff is laughable.

I think whatever arrangements (demands) LSU makes on Tulane, they have little choice other than to go along with it. We don't need them, but they bank on having LSU on its schedule.

If this is a real arrangement, then Texas looks pretty dumb
It's arrogant, no doubt, but they are in a position to make those demands.

I'm really not sure. As we have seen, Tulane should have no trouble drawing big name schools that can travel. And if it's not Tulane, it's obvious that the Superdome management has no problem scheduling neutral site games like Notre Dame did.
Suppose USC wanted to play Miami in the Superdome. What could we do about that?

1st.) Would LSU ever play @ Rice. I can see us traveling to play a BCS school like Arizona State, Va Tech and Washington, but not Rice.
2nd.) I think the only SEC team to play at Tulane in the last five years was Moo State.
3rd.) Do we draw the line at SEC teams, BCS teams, teams who have been in the top 25 the last five years?
4th.) When Tulane plays an OOC opponent, even a big one it barely gets noticed. I think Texas played them in 2002 and I only knew because I had a buddy who went to UT who told me.

According to several people I have talked to, Texas has basically told Rice that they can't ever play a football game against LSU in Houston. If they did, Texas would drop them from their future schedules.
I hope I live a long time before we play an away game in Houston. There's simply no reason for LSU to play @ Houston or @ Rice. IF (and a big "IF" at that) aTm makes some sort of resurgence, that's a team we could play that is loosely in the Houston area.
For that matter, we should never play @ Tulane ever again. That's just BS Louisiana politics that we are in the first place. We could have given them a extra boost, a tip if you will, and it would have accomplished the same thing. The ONLY solace is that it makes Tulane look pretty bad when the visiting team fans outnumber the home team fans 4 or 5 to 1.
The line between success and failure among the big programs is, like in the game itself, a matter of inches. To just give up a home game for no good reason makes little sense.
When LSU plays an away game, that is not a mandated conference away game, it ought to be exclusively a home and home deal with the Florida States, the Oregons, the Clemsons of the world, a game that makes somebody say, "Hey, I'd like to watch that." Nobody wants to watch LSU play Houston or Rice.
ETA: Chicken, I know I started rambling there, and your original point was definitely worth discussion. However, on the main point, I don't care who Tulane can get to play them in the Dome - Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, Syracuse, Penn State, UGA, whoever, more power to them. We should offer them the chance to play us in Tiger Stadium at least every three years of so, if the terms are agreeable, because it's the right thing to do - keep the money in state, rather than pay a smaller school from out of state. We should never play at Tulane, and we should never play @ ANY school that is not in a BCS conference, and never play @ ANY school that does not do a home and home deal.
