Stewart Mandel hating on LSU

Sounds alot like the "know-it-alls" on this board!

It is absolutely amazing to me that so many who played(?) golf or tennis in H.S. can go to LSU and few games in Tiger Stadium and become not only a great analyst of the game but attain more wisdom than any of the coaches!!

Now, Mr. Botany Major Guy, Flame Away!!!

........look at Vandy's last 10 SEC games and see how many points people were scoring on them.

Sept. 13 Vanderbilt 38 Rice 21
Sept. 20 Vanderbilt 23 Ole Miss 17
Box Score
Box Score
Oct. 4 Vanderbilt 14 Auburn 13
Oct. 11 Miss. State 17 Vanderbilt 14
Oct. 18 Georgia 24 Vanderbilt 14
Oct. 25 Duke 10 Vanderbilt 7
Nov. 8 Florida 42 Vanderbilt 14
Nov. 15 *Vanderbilt 31 Kentucky 24
Nov. 22 Tennessee 20 Vanderbilt 10
Nov. 29 Wake Forest 23 Vanderbilt 10
Dec. 31 VU 16 Boston College 14

Florida was the only team to seperate itself from Vandy last year in the SEC, this team returned 18 starters.......So again what did LSU do so bad in the rain?

not a fricking thing.

These numbnuts fail to realize Vandy had 18...18! starters back as well as the 2nd most experienced oline in the NCAA!!!!!!!!!!

No doubt LSU has some work to do. And,the sooner the better. But if you are really going to be honest in dissecting LSU's miscues and focusing on the negative, you need to take a peek at some of our conference rivals and do the same thing with them, too.

Exactly - It could well be that we could suck down the line and it could equally be that we could play in BCS bowls - but if we are determined to use this statistical set of two games then apply it across the board.

It's like over thinking and worrying about the first quarter results in a downturn economy when all companies are in the same boat.

Make all the excuses you want, they aren't top 10. Possibly top 15-20, but def. not top 10.

How do you quantify definitely? Have you watched or read about all the teams you think deserve a ranking ahead of LSU? Perhaps you could list the teams that have a claim to a higher seed.

You may 'feel' that LSU does not deserve a top 10 spot. But what measure tells you that they are 'definitely' not top-10 material? Unless you can use a similar measure to evaluate your other candidates, stick to feelings.

Care to revise your statement.

Maybe not, but neither does anyone else (Except the top 4). I really think this is a down year for CFB.

So is Pete Fiutak

With the way Notre Dame's offense is playing, would you take Ole Miss, LSU (who is a joke at the moment at No. 7), Georgia Tech, Utah (who is not the Utah of last year, for those not paying attention), Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Kansas, Oregon State, or Missouri, all ranked teams, over the unranked Irish?

Sounds about right. I might even go as fars as say they don't look like a top 20 team, yet. Not that they won't get there, but certainly they have been unimpressive. Lets hope they get it in gear very soon or they are going to be run over pretty quick.

if Kelvin Sheppard makes the catch on the easy pick six in the first half (that he was in the proper position to make), vandy folds their tent and LSU coasts to an easy 30-9 win

Yeah because Notre Dame beat Nevada and were beaten by Michigan - they are now this unstoppable juggernaut!!!

We talk about bammers living in the past and forget the biggest history buffs of all time - ND and its fanbase.

I think his comments are completely in bounds. He's a paid opinion columnist, so he has opninions. It's no big deal.

That said, who else has beaten two BCS teams? LSU hasn't looked dominant, but who has?

Russell Shepard would have thrown 3 TDs to Randle and ran in 2 TDs and caught 1 passing TD as a trick play from Keiland.

We didn't see any of it all because Miles doesn't know how to coach and didn't make this situation happen.

This isn't exactly accurate. FIU had a KO return for a TD in the first quarter, and scored a legitimate TD early in the second quarter to take a 14-13 lead. Alabama then dominated the rest of the way, quickly regaining the lead, then blowing them out. At most, FIU hung with them for one quarter and part of the second.

Actually, it would have been 30-2, since that was the possession they scored their TD on. If he had intercepted it to end that drive, the safety would have been their only score.

Mandel is completely worthless IMHO.

He has no personal consistency and just floats with the wind.

I won't forget the 2006 season when he repeatedly touted LSU to be "this year's Tennessee" with an "absolute best case scenario" of a 3-loss season.

Eight or nine months later around draft time, he hops on the talent bandwagon of the moment and says that LSU which had a dominant BCS win "underachieved" for the season.

Im not Les Miles biggest fan or critic, but I believe that he is showing very little offense for film reasons, and we will open it up against UGA. Practicing against our 2nd team > practicing against ULL & Miss. St.
