he was our best reliever

debatable.......I still contend that if that Arkansas hitter would have been just a tad unlucky and got a bit under that pitch that hasn't landed yet off Berry he would have been our top reliever.......also should have given me more doses of dykstra and peterson

ETA FWIW I put most of the blame on the coaching staff for this because there are countless times that I saw (namely the Arkansas game mentioned above and Game 2 MSU) where you could just tell that the pitcher didn't have it after about 5 pitches.....should have been taken out after the first batter they faced

All due respect, in the MSU game he entered the inning with a lead, and the winning run was scored by a batter he walked. So, it wasn't just an innocent "seeing eye single". That being said, good luck to Matty.

Bottom line - national title #6 doesn't happen without Matty Ice

He was definitely an integral part of that rotation.

If any draft eligible player was to sign Ott was the one I'm not entirely sad to see go.

I am. Hurts our already bad bullpen. Though I never expected him to stay. Dunn has his work cut out.

Him leaving definitely hurts the pen.

I don't think it hurts as much as many would think. We will have a deep pin next year

?

Eades, Gausman, McCune starting.

Who behind them? Berry, okay. Peterson? Rumbelow?

We'll need freshmen to pitch well. I wouldn't say we're deep, though.

You forgot dykstra, and we'll need Nola, Baranik, and Goody to help us there

Potentially, Dykstra does offer much. Big guy, throws hard, great mentality on the mound.

Perfect makeup for a good closer.

Cotton, Berry, Peterson, Rumbelow, Rittner, Dykstra, Garrett, and then the freshman. So yes deep. I personally think Eades should turn closer and put Nola in the weekend rotation. IMO

We can't say we're deep in the pin until we know what we have. As it stands right now, we have mostly unproven guys there in relief and guys coming off major surgery. We're going to need a weekday starter and we're definitely going to need some pitchers from this recruiting class before anyone can say it is close to being deep. And we don't even know how much the Freshman will contribute yet...far from deep. I expect all three starters to be strong though. I'm hoping Eades really develops.

This is why you post on a board and PM is the coach. Eades is doing good on his summer team, and he has experience. He has a lot to offer. Let Nola go to the pen an get some experience.
