Here is the problem with newspapers: Old people (my dad is one) complain if their paper isn’t there by a certain time in the morning. For that to happen, a paper has to be printed by a certain time.
The catch is that the earlier the run time, the less sports results you get in the paper. My dad complains when the paper is on time but the West Coast scores aren’t in the paper during MLB season, but then he gripes if the paper is late. You can’t have it both ways.
If a game story has no quotes, you know the writer is up against deadline and doesn’t have time to get quotes. A writer also isn’t given much space on certain events if the deadline is later. During football season, those full pages of photos are to fill space for the early edition.
Also, the further you live from Baton Rouge, the less your paper has because it will be an early edition because it takes longer to get your paper to you.
So it’s not always the writer’s fault. That said, The Advocate isn’t what it used to be. They have nickeled-and-dimed almost everything except for people who used to work for The Times-Picayune and a select few other folks.

They're just a lazy, bad newspaper now.
You are correct. The stories are poorly researched and the whole thing has become liberal spin to aid a left wing agenda.

Seriously, Twitter is the best thing to ever happen to sports coverage.

Apparently they don’t want to pay the printers overtime.
Meh. They are having to pay others to handle their online content—it doesn’t just magically appear there. And as readership declines, fewer and fewer businesses are choosing to advertise in that medium, so there is less revenue to pay staff anyway. As someone who has worked at a local newspaper in the internet age, I realize how difficult it is to get news in on time. A lot of local presses have shut down, so the bigger papers that still have them, oftentimes print other papers’ papers for them. So deadlines have moved up. We went to print at 2:30 pm the day before and 12 pm on the days we printed another paper’s (weekly) paper.
I still love a physical newspaper (though I know I’m in the minority). But I don’t get my “news” from there—I get it online immediately like everybody else. But they are still good for local stories, columns, editorials, etc...They keep you up to date on what’s happening in your community. But the days of waiting on it for last night’s boxscores and current standings are long gone. I get almost all my “news” here on Tigerdroppings.

I'm almost a Boomer and I haven't had a "paper" which is yesterday's news delivered tomorrow, in many years.
How old a fella are you?

Who reads a fricking newspaper in 2020 ? I understand if you invest in a Sunday paper for the coupons.
