The argument for kids to stay another year is dumb all around. Not a single poster here would risk another year of college if there was millions right around the corner. Even a signing bonus and a 1 year contract is enough for any kid to come back and get an education later if wanted. Hell, he could pay is own way and not work.
It’s purely selfish on our part to want a guy to return. This and nothing more. I pray that each kid that has millions waiting around the corner will go ahead and claim it.
The Snickers folks put it best: “why wait?”

Is this true of a kid who still lives in poverty and owes child support and has a broken immediate family?

There is no rational reason for a person who legitimately is a top 3 round pick to stay in college

First of all, its extremely rare for a third round pick to get cut his first year in the NFL.
But assuming so, a third round pick average signing bonus is over 600k, in addition to a salary of 300k or more.
So even if cut in his first yr, a 3rd round pick will make about a million dollars.
An average engineering graduate from LSU starts out at about 50k. With raises and not counting the return one could get on investing a million, it would take an engineer 10 years or more to earn what the third round pick made in a year.
And its not like most LSU athletes angling for the draft were ever going to be engineers anyway.

It is unfathomable to me that in this day and age ANYONE could make the argument a 1-3 round pick should stay to continue his education in a major that is likely the equivalent difficulty to basket weaving...
If I were a coach I would tell them to go, make it as far as they can, and to always keep the program in mind down the line.

I don't mind these guys getting drafted early
But they need some type of training when it comes to hiring an agent that won't swindle then or learn some basics about contracts

Money ain’t even everything. You realize this once you have something money can’t buy.
And while you're correct that money isn't everything, it's a necessary reality of life, especially for the players who come from poor backgrounds.
These players have a skill that an employer will pay huge amounts for, but their career is extremely time-limited and hyper-competitive.
It makes perfect sense for them to use their skill to start making money a year early. All rational people understand that. And this is coming from a guy who values education very highly and went all the way through, and then some.

Also there is the matter of what the football player is studying. Is it something that will pay or is it the easiest curriculum possible? If it is the latter, the degree isn't worth much anyway. Lots of bartenders in the French Quarter have degrees. Some even have good degrees... LINK

if your stock is high, you go to the nfl. if it doesn't work out for whatever reason, use a few of those millions of dollars you made to finish your degree. you can go back to school, you can't just go back to the nfl.

The only way a player should come back the last year is if:
A. He is poised to get a lot more camera time and has the opportunity to improve draft stock.
Or
B. He has no shot of being drafted at all.
When it comes to multi-year starters just forget about it.
