Dude, Les Miles is a nice guy but he's a goofy bastard to have steering your ship.

Except, that deep down you don't and can't. Deep down you know that you are tricking yourself into thinking highly of yourself.

By your logic, I'm the greatest basketball player ever because I can beat average high school kids.

On that basis, every team outside of Bama should go on the offensive at their coach considering only one man can achieve that. Amirite?

Forget Saban, name me one big name coach that has had such a dramatic quantity of time management miscues over his tenure?

Yes game and time management is only one part of coaching but he is at the rock bottom of any peer group you want to compare him too.

You and I all know it will be a lock that in one of the last 3 games there will be a wtf timeout called or not called. It is a lock.

An honest question, say Les calls perfect games all year, what would be the record? In all honesty, only one game (Ole Miss) is likely on coaching rather than talent.

I agree with you for the most part. The comparisons to CNS aren't fair, but as many have pointed out, he is the gold standard.
My problem with CLM stems for from a repeated pattern of ineptitude, not just with the Ol Miss game this year but other games in past years as well. There's just been too much stubbornness and bone-headed plays on CLMs part to justify that huge salary.
I for one would get off his back if he called good games and we still lost. It's perfectly ok to get steamrolled by a better team when you've prepared well, executed to the best of your ability, made the appropriate adjustments, and yet the other team is just flat out better on that day. No shame in that.
Most fans take issue with THE WAY we've lost some games...and hell for that matter, the way we've won some too. I'm just really tired of the freekin cardiac I get every time our team steps on the field.

Would you say the defense is well coached this year?

What does that have to do with Miles?

I like how in years past when the defense was awesome, it was b/c "Chavis doesn't let Miles frick up the defense". Have one year with several early departures and first time starters and boom, it's b/c Miles isn't a good coach.

Which I am sure in your valued expert opinion Les has never done?

So what you want is for LSU to score first, often and never have a close game?

By your logic, every coach in the nation is a failure except Saban. If that's your assertion, at least it's consistent with your logic.

but how is it realistic?

If LSU is going to charge Alabama prices for football and parking then I suppose that should be the comparison.

"If Miles loses to a&m, he's gonna be under some fire and heat. 8 & 4 is not acceptable at LSU. At least people like Mark Richt. He has that going for him. People don't even like Les Miles."- Bobby Hebert on Atlanta's 790 the zone yesterday.

I repeat it again: If Miles has top 3 recruiting classes 5 years in a row he will be better than Saban; as simple as that.

I hate this distinction. I am not "okay with mediocrity" either...but dammit we are NOT mediocre.

I truly loathe the Billy Bad-asses on this board with the "national title or we suck" mentality. That wears thin after a while.

So does the "we fked the pooch again...but it happens to everyone sometimes" mentality. Lets just see what happens this weekend against aTm
and hopefully everyone can lighten up a little with a victory.

They're both head coaches of upper tier SEC programs. Why shouldn't they be compared? If someone goes into law enforcement, they should expect to be compared to the other officers. If someone goes into education, they should expect to be compared to the other teachers. If someone goes into the Marines, they should expect to be compared to other Marines...etc.

I've seen some high school coaches make better calls in 2 minute situations than Les, let alone Nick Saban! Sometimes I think some of you people are paid to defend him, and it is getting just as old as losing to the Gumps.

I disagree with the premise of the OP. We don't have to wait for Saban to leave, retreat, or die at Bama.

The standard IMO is 'are we as good as we could be within reason'? IOW, are we as dominant and excellent as we can be?

What cripples Les is that he operates from a "secure victory first" paradigm on a game-by-game basis. (Now you understand why Mett didn't see much of the field in '11 and Jennings doesn't now). And while this may secure victory over many teams, it constrains dominance and excellence.

I can't trot out data at present so it's somewhat speculative.

Thanks for the insight into your little mentality. Win all of the big, LSU so I can feel like I am some body because I wear your colors?

I jut love it. YOU know more because?????????? Obvious to you because that is the position you have staked out for yourself and can't leave it? Obvious because being a naysayer somehow gives validation to your life? Ok If that is what it takes to get you through the day.

Not really in yur case is it? You know deep down that you aren't blissful, which is why you keep pumping out the foolishess you have been.

At least you aren't as dumb as one of the nega-Nancies I read that is convinced that Mies is an Alabama plant sent here to ruin LSU football forever. That wasn't you was it?

Was it? I'm not so sure now.
