Well, Houston, which I'm not certain if it really is Texas or the United Nations.

Also what do you mean by this? I guess you could say Houston demographically and culturally isn't reflective of the state of Texas but you could really say that about most larger/capital cities including New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

There's more to do in Houston. CFB just doesn't hold the attention of 90% of the population like it does in the deep south. Hell, they even have lacross.

By what standards are you saying that? And are you saying the United Nations is a shite hole as well, seeing as what the OP originally said is that he didn't know if Houston was "Texas or the United Nations?"

Born and raised in Louisiana and an LSU graduate. I've lived in Houston for the past 35 years. Houston is such a large and cosmopolitan city that no college team is the overwhelming favorite. Aggies are probably the most vocal, followed by Texas. I'd put LSU as #3. There are so many transplanted Louisianians in Houston, mostly because they have followed oil field jobs to Houston.

However, when it comes to pro sports, Houstonians are very supportive of the Texans and Rockets. The Astros support cooled off the last several years because they were so bad. It came back a bit this year as the Astros started to turn things around and made the playoffs.

Lived there for 10 yrs and still go monthly for work.

Katy, Tx - exemplifies what you see about Texas towns where HS football is king. Houston doesn't know anything about HS football unless they have a kid at the school.

Houston is crazy about: Houston Texans. It's the only thing you can talk to strangers about.

LSU has as much of an imprint there as any other college school, but the media there covers H. Cougars more than Big12 schools. If aTm has a big game you barely even know it.

It's simply not a college sports town. Also, everyone will tell you they're there for their job, no one seems to be there by choice.

I live in Katy ISD and absolutely agree with your comments about Katy High football. They love the Katy Tigers, however, a lot of that has to do with Katy High contending every year for the State Championship. If Katy High was not such a powerhouse, they would not have such a tremendous amount of public support.

Going to a game in Austin is like going to a PGA event

excellent analogy.

I remember my first year in Austin, I was living just north of campus and was shocked on the first gameday because it was just like any other day.

Up here in Dallas, there are tons of TCU and Baylor fans. But they are winning so its easy and certainly a lot of bandwagoners. When the Horns were having good years, I could here people yelling and cheering all over my hood when I was outside during a game.

Pick up a Sunday paper in LA, New York, Chicago, etc and you won't see a bunch of college sports on the first few pages of the sports section in those cities either. Living in a large city is just a different animal. I live in Houston and know tons of people here that are big college football fans--just from a lot of different parts of the country so their loyalties are divided. Lots of bars in town have watch parties on Saturdays for different schools. Kinda cool actually. (Especially when LSU is kicking arse)! It can't compare to New Orleans for pro football fanatics because Houston is filled with transplants while New Orleans is mostly made up of generational folks. As an earlier post mentioned, everyone brings there allegiance from their home town with them when they move here.

Its just nice for Houston to be as close to Louisiana as it is. Road trip to the promised land!

Houston is bananas about football, they talk about the shite all year round on sports radio. Even with good basketball and baseball teams.

Yeah, you must be confused. They mean "soccer" when they say "Football".

Texas is a pro football city, not college. Yes there are UT, aTM, oklahoma fans, but the majority of people are pro football fans over college.

I live in Dallas and it's all about the Cowboys here with the different colleges coming in a distant second.

Houston is a big city with lots to do.....that being said I went back to NO this weekend, and ate my way through the city.....oh Lawd....you cannot find any food that good in Houston, which is usually cited as having a great culinary scene. That being said I like living here, but if given the right opportunity id take my toys and head east on 10.
