Will Wade was incredibly incompetent when he gets caught on a phone call. Should be fired for plain dumbassery.

So persons struck by lightening are dumb asses?

The world is full of ignorant people, that doesn't mean they are dumb.
Wade only knew that other coaches, K, Self, Brown did it. He didn't know how to not get caught like those experienced coaches.

Bet he wouldn't get caught next time.

How many people know that the government can track you with your phone, even when it's not being used. That doesn't make them dumb.

Everyone who has seen Goodfellas should know to not be one on the phone making the deal.

Woody protected LSU....as he gets paid to do. He will get this fixed in short order, this is Wade's mess.

No, he shite the bed with this hire. This is not Wade’s mess.

Both can be true at the same time. The early returns on McMahon aren't good. But Wade got caught, and he was the sacrificial lamb to protect football. If Woody kept Wade and the football team got sanctioned this board would be melting down. It sucks that Wade is gone. I wish he was still here, but fans need to get over it.

Here’s ChatGPT’s take on it, in the style of Skid Row’s 18 and life:

The OLOL case had not been closed
When OBJ passed cash to his foes
The NCAA saw a chance to expose
And lumped football in with woes

They threatened penalties severe
For both programs, far and near
We chose to roll over, without a tear
To protect football, our golden dear

This news is common, no surprise
Discussed ad nauseum, with many sighs

Are you a true fan of LSU, or just disguise?

Will Wade's name echoes loud,
On wiretaps, it's clear and proud,
NCAA sent their attack dogs,
To bring him down,
It's no secret, cash under mats,
All-Americans, where it sat,
LSU and Duke, all the same,
But Wade, he played the game.
He fought back and made them look bad,
People saying "screw the NCAA, they're mad"
They took football as a pawn,
To get rid of Wade, it was all drawn.
Woodward, he's not to blame,
Wade was caught, it's all the same.
Hold on to what we got,
Together we'll make it, we'll give it a shot

Still waiting for a link that proves Woodward fired Wade to save Football. Also I am still waiting to hear how it makes sense the NCAA would accept that deal.

Lol. Exactly. Scott Woodward is worth a hundred times more to LSU athletics than Will Wade ever was or ever will be.

Wade was a pretty good coach and a very bad cheater. Jettisoning his arse to preserve football at all costs was a no-brainer. Wade knew it was coming the minute the NOA came out and he took it like a lamb.

And when Wade gets his inevitable 5-10 year show-cause, the shithead who started that thread needs to be banned for life.

I'm not saying Wade is "innocent". Or that his firing wasn't justified. But to say "he should have known to not be the one on the phone" is absurd and complete hindsight bias.

When, in the history of the DOJ/FBI had there EVER been an investigation of college basketball recruiting? That possiblity was so far out of a coaches purview that the thought the DOJ/FBI might waste resources in such an investigation was laughable. I'm certain the same phone conversation you heard with Wade likely happened dozens of times a day with dozens of major-conf. basketball coaches all over the nation. That is simply how recruiting works at the major-conf. level. AAU basketball exists SOLELY has a high school prospect marketplace. If you are going to recruit AAU players, and all of the big time talent are such players, then you have to deal with the "middle men" and "runners". That's WHY AAU basketball exists. Everyone knows that. Including the NCAA.

Wade had the misfortune of being on the phone with the ONE "runner" in America who was wired because that guy happened to have the misfortune of being loosely affiliated with a Pittsburgh "financial advisor" who was screwing over pro athletes. I don't think many on hear realize how this whole ridiculous episode in the DOJ's history started. It had NOTHING to do with college basketball recruiting. The Pittsburgh guy was busted. So to save his arse he gave the DOJ a more "salacious" investigation because the public wouldn't care a lick if some con man in Pittsburgh went to jail. But "investigating" college basketball would get attention...so that's what they did.

Wade probably had similar conversations with other runners who your nor I have ever heard of. Probably that same day. And those runners likely talked to other HC's you have heard of on that same day as well. It was an absurd instance of being on the phone with the ONE wrong runner at the exact wrong time in the history of college basketball.

It is what it is, and I completely understand why LSU fired him. But to act like a basketball HC should have foreseen the FBI listening to such an innocuous and commonplace conversation about recruiting is ridiculous. Similar conversations between other coaches and other runners almost assuredly happened that day. You just never heard about them because none of those other runners were being pinched by the DOJ
