College football is cyclical. What happens when the next little downturn comes and they still have to pay the construction? Who's going to fill those seats? The fans that sold out and filled the stadium this past Saturday? Are you going to donate 100mm+ to cover the costs? It's not a wise move.
We'll know more depending on how long it takes them to add the new scoreboard in the SEZ.

I agree with this.
LSU AND the City of Baton Rouge need some serious infrastructure upgrades, before they should even begin thinking of this.
In my opinion, it ain't gonna happen any time soon, either way.

One has nothing to do with the other. Any expansion will be private money and has nothing to do with public funding of city or LSU campus projects.
It's a false assumption to think that private money would somehow be diverted to some other public project.

We're talking within the next 5 years
Now, not sure what happens. I will say this, people will start to think harder about buying season tickets if we continue to schedule crappy non-conference games. It is much cheaper to buy tickets on the street for the few games that you want to attend and watch the rest on TV.

It would be a joke for LSU to even consider adding an upper deck. They can only fill what they've got 2-3 times a year.

Again, that is false. There is a waiting list for season tickets, Stadium Club seats and the Tiger Den. Any expansion will be made up mostly of premium seating.
The revenue from premium seating is huge.

Adding suites to south endzone is the goal. Won't happen until at least 2010.

Those pics are awesome, I would love to see that happen.
as if our upperdecks aren't high enough lol

this is true, i have talked to people in the know. upper upper decks are much more feasible than enclosing both endzones

So your assumption is then, that the economy won't affect Louisiana? At what point do the fairweather fans stop paying for tickets they won't use?

I think you're misunderstaning what I'm getting at.
I'm referring to infrastructure to handle ANY increase in stadium crowds.
They are woefully unequipped to handle the CURRENT capacity.

I have no idea what impact the current economic problems will have on this project. I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility of this project being delayed. Your guess is as good as mine.
As for the fairweather fans, as long as we continue winning, they'll sell the seats. I think that is why Miles might not get the same amount of time as some other coaches who've won an NC if the program starts to slide back the next few years.

wrong then how would the students, band, and everyone get in the gates??
Closing North Stadium drive is part of the Campus Master Plan (from 2003, update from 2006). The area between Tiger Stadium / Athletic building and the PMAC / Mike's cage / gift center / Bernie Moore Track Stadium is planned to be a "pedestrian mall". There would still be room for people (and the band) to walk here, even with new stadium supports. The greater concern (and cost) is the Lawton room and the other weight facility, both of which would have supports coming right down through them if the north side of the stadium were to be expanded. However, give an engineer the money, and he can make it work. If the university decides that they can make more money from Tiger Stadium with a north upper deck than without it, they will eventually build it. Eventually being the key word.

As far as south of campus, Nicholson is slated to be widened to two lanes both ways with turning lanes from near campus to Brightside/Lee under the Green Light Plan. Additional widening could happen in the future, but you're looking at 20 years down the line before that planning starts. Burbank is already being widened to two lanes both ways with turning lanes along its entirety. Seigen is slated to be widened similarly between Highland (the end of Burbank) and Perkins. Staring is slated to be expanded to Burbank, and to be widened similarly between Burbank and Perkins (where it becomes Essen). Perkins is being similarly widened along its length. There are plans for potentially adding another interstate entrance / exit for I-10 at Pecue Ln, with other road linkage as well.
As far as north of campus towards downtown and the bridges, there's not much you can do.. even if Nicholson were to be widened, it would still bottleneck at downtown.
East of campus, you're kind of stuck. the I-10 interchange improvements at Washington were shot down a few years ago. You've got Dalrymple and the roads through the Lakes to Perkins, and Parker and the roads through the Lakes to LSU Ave/Acadian plus LSU Avenue/Acadian itself.
West of campus, you've got a river. There's the crappy River Road that you can take north or south, and that's it.
If people want other options, it's more busses to remote locations, which cuts down on the cars on campus but also kills off some tailgating. Short of running commuter trains on the route along Nicholson norht to downtown and south towards NO and along Perkins to north to downtown and south towards NO plus the other routes east and west from north of downtown, or maybe bike trails / sidewalks and extra security for those bikes, that's what we've got.

There's no reason we shouldn't have the largest stadium in college football.
Well The Big house is halfway underground and is much more able to expand more than Tiger Stadium, plus I imagine they will just keep expanding to always claim to be the biggest.

They've kind of limited their expansion options since they are currently building two huge suite/club seats structures on both side lines. Their only expansion room now is in the endzones. With this new suite/club seat expansion they are barely gaining any seats, if any because they now have to comply with ADA requirements and have to convert many seats throughout the stadium to handicap accessible.

I know people in the engineering firm that did the structure for the East and West upper decks. Doing anything in the north would be very difficult and expensive because of the PMAC and the structure of the north side of the stadium. They are working on some plans to put suites and expand stadium club in the south.
