I guess I never thought about it because I just counted him as a draftee, but he does have 2 years of eligibility left so he doesn’t lose his leverage by coming back.
Teams are going to know his number to sign him. They arent going to waste a #2 rd pick on a guy they might not sign. Hr could also get over slot value depending on who drafts him.
Guys like Shores also probably want to start his career to start the clock on a second contract. MLB teams have the rights to you for 6 years. If your bad arse like Skenes you can get a pre arbitration contract after year 3. You have to be in the top 22% of the league at your position to qualify for the super 2 pre arbitration.

#101 Jones
#119 Frey
I wouldn't be shocked if Frey is drafted before Jones. Great athleticism for his size and high upside, attractive to scouts. He can be developed to learn a position in the minors.

$1 Million isn't what it used to be. After tax and agent fees, it's a good start on a retirement portfolio, but it isn't enough to live on for very long.
Yep and if you burn out in the minors like most people you have a town to come back to and get a kush insurance or pharma job.
No one is giving a kush job to a guy who went pro out of highschool and didn’t make it. And somehow they now have to try to get an education.
With NIL it’s almost a no brainer to go to college unless you are 1st round.
It’s almost a bigger gamble to go pro.

Meh Josh Pearson’s older brother did this. You know what he’s doing now after never making the majors? A real estate agent, same type job a lot of these dudes who went to LSU do
