SWAC bands are terrible unless you like hearing the tuba and the trumpet all blow at once with no continuity whatsoever
well tell me this.
how come when a SWAC school plays a non-HBCU the stands stay full at halftime when the SWAC school takes the field..
but when the non-hbcu school takes the field, everybody goes on bathroom break and food break.....
until you can march a 8to5 highstepping show for 12 straight minutes, cant notting be said.
note: i never marched for a HBCU, but i have marched their style in high school.

Black show type bands have a different style of marching than schools like SEC schools and others. My friends and I would always have LSU tiger band vs Southern Band who is better, I really don't think you can compare the two its like comparing apples to oranges. They are both very talented in their own respective styles of music.
also the amount of people who go to the bathroom and get food doesn't measure the quality of the band. Plus people don't go to southern games to watch football they watch it for the band. people to to LSU games to watch football not to watch the band.

Their research sucks, the Florida A&M band has been suspended and won't even exist as a unit for a couple of more years, for disciplinary reasons.

Im not saying what they do isnt incredibly difficult...all im saying is they are only good at 1 part of it and thats the marching part....no one can question that when instruments start playing the sound that comes from them are absolutely terrible...they need to spend a little more time reading some sheet music....are you telling me when you listen u say to yourself "man that sounds awesome!" i dont think so

They gonna keep famu band suspended to water out a lot of the current students...and in a few years they gonna have a all new fresh batch of kids

Yeah I was talking about the winds. Drumline sucked in 2011.
Posted on 7/10/12 at 4:53 pm to austintexastiger
Florida A&M is currently disbanded because they beat their drum major to death.

Well if ever there was an opinion, that was one.
The LSU Pregame Salute/Hold That Tiger makes "dotting the i" seem as exciting as watching dry paint dry. Of course, that's just another opinion...

Like them or not, this is pretty bad arse... A & M Halftime
It should be considering the Aggies play the SAME halftime EVERY TIME! Somebody could master 1 piano concerto to he point of playing it flawlessly. However, that wouldn't make him/her a great pianist.

tOSU band is just big. They have a nice tradition with the dot of the i. Not in the same league as the USC band, though, and lacks the Song Girls with the white sweaters

but USC lacks a variety of songs that are played during the game.
good play fight song
good pass fight song
first down fight song
touchdown fight song
Defensive stop fight song.
list goes on and on

Whoever is in charge of the PA in Tiger Stadium needs to read this link. I'd rather hear the highly acclaimed band instead of the same canned music that every NFL & most NCAA stadiums play ("Crazy Train", "Start Me Up", etc.)

we usually do, plus the band can only play so much.

I've seen those bands' members holding wind instruments w/o playing or even putting them down on the turf to wiggle their asses or otherwise "dance" (using that term loosely). That behavior is an insult to true musicians & music in general.

Usually it's not the canned music that takes up play time, it's the PA announcements and usually-pointless recognitions after the end of almost every play and for every timeout.

But it's "entertaining"!
