I've seen the guy projected around the 10th round....can't be that good.

That might have been based on last year, his velocity is reportedly up to 92-94 and throws multiple pitches for strikes, that is not 10th round talent---much higher upside with another year of physical maturation.

Yeah, and we lost Joey Bourgeois(pitched 60 innings which was 2nd on the team last year) and Chris Matulis(54 innings pitched 3rd last year) to injury. They would could have helped us get through those 1 loss games.

Cajun, are you related to Joey?

He had a 6.68 ERA last year. You know that right?

LSU=Champions you understand that a pitcher with that much experience could have helped our bullpen out?

see 3 freshman pitchers who if they all develop in their 2nd year at an average pace will give us probably the best rotation in the conference if not the country. This team underperformed...but it was young.

Agree on the 3 Frosh Starters; but only IF Grewe leaves 'em alone. Don't know who else to blame for Ott's getting worse instead of better. Grewe IS the pitching coach and he calls the pitches, so who else do we blame if not him? (excpet PM if he doesn't get rid of him)

Rittiner should be back. He was looking better and better throughout 2010. Middle relievers can be made on this team. It's closing pitching I'm worried about.

Agreed on the theory of waiting too long to switch pitchers. Switch every danged batter if that's what it takes.

The team was young, but there are a lot of young teams in the NCAA field that was named today.

This team as so close so many times. So close. IF they learn to turn that into a "no mercy" mindset on the field in 2012, they will once again be in contention for a NCAA title.

Putting Joey into the game as a relief pitcher in a 1 or 2 run ballgame would make me more nervous than Matty Ott in a one-run in conference game. Or any other pitcher we have on our roster. His ERA is way too high.

all these idiots calling for PMs head will be the same ones wondering why we cant get a quality head coach in here in 2-3 years after he is gone. I could sit here and list dozens of reasons of why we didnt win more games this season. Look at what we lost and had to replace this season. We had a ton of talent to replace. Yes, we have good players, but we are very young. On a roster of 38, we had 23 freshman/sophmores on this squad this season, and 2, yes 2, seniors. We still managed to put together a solid overall record and was in serious consideration for a selection to the postseason. Climb back off the ledges guys, its simply a down year for us. When Skip B loses faith in PM, then you got something to worry about, until then lets kill the speculation of a new head coach.

edit to add: Whats with all these guys saying "we" in reference to LSU athletics, yet have an OSU/BAMA/VT/ARKY etc etc logo next to their name? still don't understand that one...

He's the Gary Crowton of pitching coaches, anyone notice it takes this guy forever to call a pitch? It's horrific....the people who sit down the third base line at the games and keep their eyes on him know what I'm talking about.

That probably is one of the least pressing issues I could possibly imagine. Are you related to Jim Hawthorne?

Last year:
Ott 6.38
Joey 6.68

Clearly Ott was much better..considering Joey started games and went a lot longer in them then Ott did. Yeah his ERA last year sucked, but that's not to say he wouldn't have improved coming into this year. Look at Alsup he pitched over that his first two years(6.75, 6.14), and started getting better the last two years(3.88, 4.66). He would have been a much more viable option this year.

If this baseball program is not in a regional next year, Maineri's head needs to be axed !!

He will need some very good position players who can hit. Seems we had good hitters and a shortage of pitching then he signs 20 pitchers and has no hitters.

A little leadership would help to.

The rotation was 3 Fresh at the end. They did not do that bad. The hitters gave them no help and coach didn't know when to take them out. Now the bullpen is another story.

Your logic is that of a pitcher such as Alsup that had a bad ERA his first few years and got better, so Joey B. would also improve his ERA that drastically as well.

I don't mean to knock the kid as I'm sure he's a fine young man, but I'm just pointing out facts.

That isn't something that happens with every pitcher, especially with our outstanding pitching coach who seems to only let our pitchers regress throughout their years here (Louis Coleman the exception).

Joey's ERA at LSU-E was over 4.00 If I'm not mistaken (I don't know the exact number so I could be wrong). I don't know why we even signed him with an ERA that high facing competition of a lower level.

Finally, comparing him to Ott is just wrong - apples to oranges. Ott had a phenomenal freshman year, imploded on his sophomore slump, and then had an up and down year this year. That doesn't exactly compute to your logic.

Ever play baseball? It's harder on the fielders, since you have guys just standing around waiting. It's hard on the pitchers because at times it breaks their rhythm, especially guys who are generally fast workers.

When Skip was coach, almost all of the pitchers worked extremely fast.

so if pm is such a great coach, how in the hell you hire a pitching coach with no knowledge of pitching, and a damn hitting coach who is dumb as a bag of rocks
