So, if ESPN said it, it's fact?

I wonder if our old ball coach Les Miles has his Wolverines ready to play this year. It's a shame we lost him when he left for Michigan last December.

The World Record in the 4 x 100 Meter Relay is 37.40. That means four guys ran a 9.35 100 meters.

Will some ranter idiot please figure out what their 40 times were?

FACTS : Bolt is the fastest ever. We'll never know his 40 time. He's in a league of his own.
Figuring his 40 time by math equations is ignorant. Arguing about his 40 time is for people who like to argue. End of discussion. Next thread please.......

It doesn't take a genius to realize that at about 40 m he hadn't yet started to separate from the rest of the field. It also doesn't take a genius to figure out that you can't divide 100 m by 9.69 seconds and then directly equate that to a 40-yard dash.

ETA: We're not saying we know his 40 time. We're just saying 3.54 is dumb.

to the best of my recollection, the statement about bolt's 40 time was something along the lines of at his TOP speed during the race, he was running at a rate of xxx mph, and they extrapolated the 40 time from that.

to echo what many have said here, it takes time/distance to work up to full speed when starting from a standstill.

if you saw the 200 last night, they were talking about the fact that bolt should run the second 100m of the 200m race in 9.3 seconds.

who knows if bolt could be another skeets neimiah....course, i dont recall him having a great pro career i think he was just notable for being a former track guy.

Are you that much of a retard?? You could easily find out what his 40 time is by knowing the exact point of 36.57 meters and have a really good video system and camera angle. The fact that ESPN used ignorant math to figure out what his 40 time is the question. The fact that many rantards believe that despite logistics is worse. I garantee though he didnt run under 4 seconds in the first 36.57 meters.

His 10 meter splits:

Calculates to a 4.35 40 (yards).

Also, if you know what his reaction time is, you can subtract it to figure out how he would have been timed at the NFL Combine (with no starting gun). My guess is it would be about 4.15-4.2. Still no where near 3.54 .

wll if you watched his 100 meters...you would see he is slow out the blocks and that he was essentially tied with half the field at 40 meters...guess that means thompson in dix can run a 3.8 40 too

Actually, for the algebra challenged, he would theoretically run a 3.54. 100 meters=109.361 yards. This assumes his speed is constant, which it is not. While the early speed is lower until he reaches top velocity, this "slow" portion of the race is smaller by percentage and therefore skews the numbers. No way he runs sub-4.0.

Yeah, there is no way that Bolt would have won a 40 yard race at the Olymics. That said, I also think that Bolt's height would make him an incredible WR. He could make the rest of the league just look silly.

They actually said that Bolt's 9.69 100 meter time is equivalent to a 3.8 40 yard dash.

NBC Sports track announcers said that during Bolt's 100m world record he ran his 1st 40 yds in 4.22. They knew that football fans would be interested. Of course, averaging his entire race could produce the 3.8 that you quote.

How could it be a fact there's no way of proving it, its more of a theory than fact.

It hard to say its a fact when most track stars have their own unique gear in which their speed start to gain ground. Thats why most track star run certain events and not all of the events.

Bolt might be fast in the 40 but not as fast as others.
