Thanks for all the suggestions! We can't wait. I keep hearing rumors about pretty decent tailgating down there!
i think you will be amazed....make sure you wear your UVA colors with an LSU hat (or the opposite)...remember alligator does taste like chicken!!!!!

"pretty decent tailgating"

Nice! You picked a great one to watch.

quote:Excellent choice! I recommend to arrive on campus early on Saturday morning ... like 9 AM. Wear your UVA gear and visit as many tailgates as you can. Let people know it's your first trip. You'll eat so much food and drink so much you'll throw up at least twice before the game.
coming to Baton Rouge Friday late afternoon.
quote:I created a gameday visitor's walking map but I need to update it first. I'll post a link when that's done. You may want to hit Walk-On's after the game. It's a restaurant/bar and the post game show is broadcast from there (was last year, haven't been this year). Kids are allowed in the eating area so your son will be fine. Lots of pretty girls to keep his attention too.
What do we do on Saturday before and after the game?
quote:Student section is north end zone (nw corner). That's the fun area. I sit north end zone directly across from the students. I'm sure you'll enjoy the game no matter where you sit. BTW, I sat in the upper deck for the first time ever last year and those seats aren't bad at all. However, there's more volume in the lower bowl areas.
Looking on Stub Hub, lots of seats. Where should we sit?

IMO, section 216 is the best section in the house
I agree. If there aren't seats there, go for 215

I also am a UVA alum and a die hard LSU fan. Get ready for a great experience, it will make you a little sad to realize you spent four years of undergrad going to Scott's Stadium. Follow all the aforementioned advice and have a good time.
I say all these things with a great love of UVA as a school, but the sports culture is lacking in my opinion. Geaux Tigers, Go Hoos!

Don't be shy about approaching people's tailgates and telling them where you're from and that its your first lsu game. You will get a warm reception we have a reputation to uphold
Roger that, Big Lake.
I'd avoid frat row tailgates - nothing against them but the better ones seem to be either on the parade grounds or along South Campus Dr.

In case you didn't already know, the team comes out of the tunnel under section 206 which is right in front of 216

section 215 is available rows 4 and 6
section 213 a little higher, rows 9, 13, 19 and 26
Any thoughts? Which is best to watch the band and observe the "talent" (my son of course)

honestly, you are good with pretty much anything in the lower bowl...the 500 section seats in the middle of the uppers (tiger terrace) are my favorites, but they are few and far between...
one thing to remember is that if you are on the east side, the sun will be in your face, this is likely to be a day game, so I wouldn't get any east uppers (i.e. sections 630 - 643)...everything else is excellent....
as far as gear, you can get pretty much anything you need at the albertsons (grocery store) and the wal mart at the college drive exit on your way into campus...I would also recommend you stay in that area if you can (embassy suites, crown plaza, courtyard, hampton, etc.)....hilton downtown is also good (and has a shuttle to the game) as is the one at the casino near I-10 (can't remember the name)...
eat at TJ Ribs at Acadian for some damn good barbecue and a fantastic game-day atmosphere...you can see shaquille o'neal tennis shoes there along with a ton of other LSU stuff...
want something a little fancier, eat at Ruffino's (ex LSU football player) or for some damn good cajun food near campus go to Parrains...
you are certainly welcome to come by my tailgate if you would like...just catch up with me here as the game nears...
ETA: any of the tickets that you mention will be great for atmosphere, etc....here is a link that will show you the view from each section...click on the sections...

The band is in 217.
The student section is in the nw corner from 217 over to 221 and the tiers below and above those sections.

Just updated my walking map. If anyone else has suggestions for other items of interest or bits of information you feel would help, let me know.
ETA: Video I took of the LSU Band marching down Victory Hill last year.

WAHOOWA!
There's nothing like the atmosphere of Baton Rouge on game day. You will thoroughly enjoy it. Have a great time and enjoy tailgating!
Geaux Tigers and Go Hoos!
PS - married a LSU alum and now live in TX so we see the Tigers quite regularly. I miss CVille though!

Tigerhead, that's awesome. It will be very helpful. I'll be sure and drop by and say hello!

There's always gameday steaks at Fred's. Not exactly a kid friendly bar, but some trash hos brought their kids for the NW game.

Most of those are put up by fraternity alumni for the active members. They don't usually let others partake in their tailgating

we were in charlottesville last night to see Earth Wind and fire ! First time at the Pavilion. Dinner was a little disappointing at Moco loco's. there is nothing like Tiger Stadium. Just dont wear a tie to the game - people will think you are lost and direct you to the opera ! And dont bring wine and cheese either - there will be more gumbo, jambalaya and etoufee than you will ever see in your life ! My buddies down there put on a pretty good spread right near the Indian Mound. If you happen to get by there ask for charlie and Randy. 2 older guys that geaux to every single game. I will see them in morgantown this coming weekend. Geaux to the bookstore - its a one stop shop and reasonable !! Geaux tigers !!
