It amazes me how if it's not an LSU player doing it, then it's considered showboating. People need to relax and allow these kids to do their thing. It's obviously his "thing" to do after the final out in an inning. So what? What about Byrd's "you can't see me"? What about the LSU player who receives the handoff from the first base coach everytime he hits a homerun? Let it go people.

plenty of people were pissed at tyson jackson and harry coleman during football season for doing dances after every tackle

I dont know how much baseball you watch, but LSU is far from the only team that does this.

fwiw in football if you make a big play like a long first down, force fumble, int, sack, tackle for loss and stuff fine do a little something.
I have no problem when someone makes a great play getting excited but the vandy first basemen went over the line by running around and spiking the baseball. A fist pump or yell is fine after a huge play but he ran to the mound and spiked the ball. That is just being an arse clown

Exactly. And all I'm saying to the people that are ragging on the Vandy first baseman is to not be hypocritical. If you're against any type of "hey look at me" stuff, then be consistent. But I haven't seen any angry threads started about the fake handoff.

I'd be calling out Ochinko, et al., if they did it. It's premeditated toolbox douchieness at its worst.

Check out the very end of the video, like the 56 second mark. For those people that didn't know he did this.

the handoff isnt nearly as douche and look at me as the spiking the ball. the players dont go out of the way to get the hand off.

Fixed that comment for you. And for the record, I'm OK with all of it, as long it doesn't cross a line and become aimed at an opposing player. I've seen catchers slam the ball towards the mound after a 3rd out strikeout in a clutch situation. It's just emotion.

the handoff is like a ^5. It's apples to oranges when compared to spiking the baseball.
Posted on 5/24/09 at 9:25 am to SouthEndzoneTiger
yep the handoff is so bad

Posted on 5/24/09 at 9:27 am to Jaydeaux
handoff is after a homerun and isn't showing up anyone. Its not like he stopped at first or some shite. He just takes the hand off while actually going around first.
running to the mound and jumping in the air then spiking the ball is different.

Showboating in football is totally differen than baseball. Can't even compare the two.

I agree, it's not bad. My point is neither is the spike. How can you say one is bad and not the other?

I tend to agree with you on this. But when I alluded to Bryd's thing I was trying to get people to compare that to other football things, not baseball.

the handoff is a pretty quick thing and isn't really drawing the same type of attention as running to the mound jumping and spiking the ball as hard as you can

I think Sanchez began doing the hand off with Clark and it carried over to the other players. I don't see it as disrespectful and wouldn't think it was even if another team used it. Spiking the ball into the ground after a close call or game altering play is fine. But to do it after every inning ending play at first is too much.

I'll just say that we can agree to disagree on this. I understand what you are saying though. But I would bet my last dollar that if it was Ochinko who had started doing that, it would be considered the coolest thing since sliced bread.
