1998 was much worse, to me. Herb and Kevin were back for senior seasons, we had SEC championship aspirations. But no, we ascend to #6 and then we Lou Tepper ourselves to 8 straight losses. Most of them close ones where we just got outscored. The UGA game that started the losing was one of the loudest I've ever been to. Damn Champ Bailey, he was good.

It's do or die for ol' Orgeron U., in 2018.

Recent memory, and disappointment are relative to the amount of LSU football you've cheered for.
There were some dark, dark years from late 80s to mid 90s.....I mean like come on, 2016 went bowling and finished the season ranked fairly high, compared to the year after year disappointment of 6 straight losing seasons.

I really got into lsu football in 1995. So naturally my most disappointing season and probably of all time is 1998. We were loaded!!!!!! It was finally the year we go to the sec championship and send kevin Faulk off to the NFL a winner. Then we had to "tepper" our expectations.
Special shoutouts to 1989 and 1974 teams. I was too young for 1989 and wasn't born for 74, but have read about them. Hell I think the 74 team was preaseason number 1 in sports illustrated yet finished 5-5-1

It's why Les got fricking fired. Dude was straight terrible.
His SEC record post 2011 was garbage and so was his win % against ranked teams

Seems the Achilles heal of Les Miles' tenure was the quarterback position. Either Les could not judge talent or develop talent in regard to a qb, take your pick. He also was over confident in his coaching abilities and ultimately his lack of coaching knowledge caught up with him.

Nothing new under Les Miles.
He did less with more the whole time he was here.
example 07, legit nfl QB surrounded by a great cast and a great defense yet he lost 2 games. Only luck got us into the NCG.

“Depleted”? Florida’s defense had 7 drafted to the NFL.

dude, the hallman era was the only time I can think of with more frustration. at least we didn't have the players back then. what can you say for miles in his post 1/9/12 era? most of the fanbase agrees that "the fun had been sucked out." people were even saying they were "finding other things to do on Saturday".

You obviously weren't around for the Curley Hallman debacle.

Yeah, I was thinking and hoping that team would be a title contender for 4 years leading up to that season and then they turned out to be just not very good.

I thought u guy's already knew LSU desn't want a good QB. We haven't had one for so long we would not know what to do if we had a good one!

There have been far worse seasons than 2016. If you had been around and following the program as long as some of us, you would know that. From someone actively following the program back into the 60's a couple of McClendon's years in the mid-70's come to mind, Stovall's last season comes to mind, Archer's last two seasons come to mind, all of Hallman's seasons, DiNardo's last couple of seasons, etc. The two biggest disappointments - the best team LSU fielded back in the late 60's, gearing to go to the Cotton Bowl to play for the NC and Notre Damn decided to lift its self-imposed bowl ban resulting in the Cotton Bowl picking them over us. The team voted to stay home that year instead of going to a lesser bowl. That one couldn't be blamed on the coach. The other one was 01/09/12 and that one most certainly could be blamed on the HC. At that point Miles starting losing the program in a big way.

yes, we were loaded but Brandon Harris, Buga's injury, and the debacles in Green Bay and Auburn turned this into the most disappointing in memory and got us a new coach.

You liked what you saw against Miss State? That's interesting.

I've still yet to forgive O for that loss to Florida. But it fit the theme of that season.
One Team. One Heartbeat.
One play vs. Wisconsin.
One second vs. Auburn.
One quarter vs. Alabama.
One yard vs. Florida.
One lost season.
The absolute most disappointing season I can remember in my lifetime.

Nope...
2011, regardless of how the season went... Having to play bama again, and get beat like we did, is still the worse.
