I don't think you can mix and match schools or mix professional teams with college teams.
I agree, sunday I wore a purple polo and a cubs visor to the astros/cubs game and it just felt awkward.

That's probably because you were wearing some unfortunate combination of Purple/Blue/Red.

i (whether its good or bad, i dont know) go all out on game day. Last year was the LSU College hat, Purple pants, custom purple and gold patchwork shirt, Skull and bones purple and gold beauxtie, and the icing on the cake was...
my father in law, a big hunter, got me a bird hunting belt that comes with a cooler, most are camolflauge for all coloquial reasons, but the one he got me is purple. It has three pouches, one for shells, one for misc, and one for birds, and a cup holder, but....the best part about it is it holds a 12 pack of beer.
I usually catch some ridicule for it, especially at road games, things like "look at the fanny pack" "what is this disney world" that sort of thing, but it is quickly silenced when I'm a good sport and bust it open and produce an ice cold beer for my enemy.
I also catch ridicule for the attire, for instance at tenn in 06, a guy behind me was very bothered by me and wasnt watching the game, he called me the "gay willy wonka" in which i turned and replied that he "could suck my everlasting gobstoppers" as i grabbed my nuts. Also told him he was just mad that he was 50 and i am 24 and my seats are better than his.
Also at Tenn in '06 a student started calling me Bill Nye, and his girlfriend proceeded to say "shut up, he's HOT!"
it was great. I love to be obnoxiously flamboyant on gameday!

i know for me it goes back to my childhood. my parents never let me wear a normal tshirt to the games because when they went with their parents people dresssed up for the games. i know people have a problem with that and say leave that for ole miss, but i dont think it matters. i do get dressed up for games though

i think the jersey issue makes some sense on both sides.
wearing a jersey to a game isn't all that bad. some guys can pull it off, some can't.
where the grown man in a jersey looking dorky comes into play is the guy who camps out in a hotel on SEC media day waiting to get some kids autograph!
there is a whole spectrum of 'jersey wear' inbetween.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion. i see folks on gameday that have to wear the official $100 nike polo and dress like they are either a coach or going to a business meeting. that suits them, but not me. there are some folks who don't wear LSU gear at all but instead look like adds for abercrombie and fitch. that's their call.
as for my daily (non game day) wear, i usually don't wear both a lsu hat and a lsu shirt cause it seems like it's overkill to me. i am an alum of two schools, so sometimes i will wear a shirt of one and a hat of the other provided that the colors of the articles of clothing somewhat match. no red shirt with a purple hat, but gray and purple work.
getting back to the original post though, i think it is cool to go as far as you want to go. i like wearing my purple and gold shoes to games. i like finding other cool purple and gold or tiger stuff to wear. i've got a sombrero, a straw hat with a tiger striped head band, tiger boxers, some hawaain shirts with tigers, - some games, i feel like wearing more stuff than others.

How far is too far? Jersey?
Up here, more people than not are probably wearing Jerseys to the game.
Least till it drops below freezing, then most will wear an Ohio State sweatshirt of some sort.

if you have kids, its time to hang up the jersey
up until then, I dont have a huge problem
getting your personal name on the back of a jersey is lame though
but i dont see much of a difference in wearing a jersey then people that come on here looking for the coaches 2 button collared shirts and shite. I think the people that wear the dry fit Polo shirts look like pretty big tools myself

On Christmas morning, 2006, I opened up a gift from the wife and it was my jersey, matted and framed, as if retired. She immediately handed me the next gift, which was a brand new Nike jersey, #7, with my name on back
I'm sure she meant to give that to your son, she must have just got the presents mixed up. If not then it's still good to know that they still celebrate Christmas in trailers.
Seriously jersey's do have their place.
1) An 8 yr old kid.
2) A hot co-ed, (please not a fat-arse with a fat role over the skirt or tight jeans.)
3) Mentally retarded adult
4) The players on the field.
The only thing worse than an adult wearing a jersey is a jersey an a adult with those stupid looking purple and gold cow print pants.

Gear for BAMA Game
I bought a few of these for the Bama game this year. I usually just wear a hat & jersey though. Normal non-gameday cloths would consist of a LSU polo or T-shirt, depending on where I'm going.
