People say it’s been going on, but there were some controls on the cheating. Now it’s the Wild Wild West.
8T4 never signed that many 5 stars…….so it’s not been going on to the degree it is now.

Being a fan is rooted in an association with the players - from my home town / state / high school. OR we cheer for them because they love LSU so much they came all the way from California or Florida to wear the purple and gold and play in Tiger Stadium. College football is technically an inferior entertainment product to NFL (hell, even USFL) on a skill metric so if you make it a professional league where decisions are based solely on Tennessee will pay me $25k in cash but Auburn will pay $35k so I will go to Auburn the underlying premise of cheering for the like-minded student athlete goes away completely (for many it already has). This USFL experiment where someone is asking me to care about “the New Orleans Breakers” with zero actual connection is a proxy to where we are heading - just 11 guys running by around in the same colored shirts. At the end of the year players will just portal over to a team willing to pay more. Why should I root for Nussmeier to develop and become a legendary QB if odds are he’s going to get $150k from T Boone Pickens to play at Oklahoma State next year?

No sports league in the entire world has a complete open free agency. There are contracts, salary caps, etc. I guess one could say it’s an interesting experiment, but I don’t think it’s that hard to see why people have strong reservations regarding it.

Are you trolling or just really this clueless?

Players are mercenaries now. They don't play for love of the sport and love of the school. They play for love of money.

Name-Image-Likeness - it was long overdue to let players benefit from the use of their name or likeness while in school. What schools like A&M turned it into, flat out buying players to come to a program, is not sustainable for most programs. A professional minor league football league with unlimited free agency is not a model that will prove interesting. I think it will be a nightmare for most programs and fans alike.

In a few years Texas and Texas A&M will dominate the SEC. Because of Texas oil money, no other SEC programs will be able to compete.

Why?? It just doesn't do the sport world I believe a lot of good. It will start the world of"greed" more than ever. Sports use to be our daily tonic. Now it gives us heart burn.

Its also forcing or allowing (however u wanna look at it) Players to engage with the worst part of all from professional sports - Agents!!!
Now High School kids are contacting agents to “Help” negotiate their NIL Deals. Out of everything thats changed this should scare the shite out of anybody that actually loves College Sports!! They’re essentially ambulance chasing lawyers with sports connections. Nothing good will come from 17-20 Year Old kids trusting a Sports Agent with their future!!

Yea the capitalism argument falls short. There has to be some limits, if we simply go by the logic of “that is what said player is worth so what’s the problem?”, then what about buying off the refs to give your team all of the calls? It’s just what someone is willing to pay right?

Because Jimbo and Satan do it better.

The concept of NIL is great and long over-due.
The execution, along with the transfer portal, has been dog crap

Don’t have an issue, but needs rules and a cap

If that is what happens, and I have no doubt if it continues on its current path it will, the SEC will fall apart. Fans will stop giving a shite and fans are what make it successful and sustainable. When nobody other than UT and 8&4 fans gives a shite it all falls apart.

What could possibly go wrong with unlimited free agency and no salary cap?

If we didn’t have Gordon, I would hate NIL. But with Gordon, I can live with it.

If a kid wants a NIL contract fine, but if that same kid does not produce fine and/or cut immediately.
