St. Thomas More of Lafayette is the state champs of the Louisiana High School Lacrosse League this year. It is one of the fastest growing sports in America right now. BTW, LSU has a club sport but since there is no funding it costs like 2500 dollars per person to play.

I have a feeling it is popping up in high schools for people not good enough for the other sports. Not saying I have a problem with it. Keep the kids active.

Plus Caddo Magnet, Byrd, Loyola, Captain Shreve, and St. Thomas More. I'm sure there's more, these are just off the top of my head.

Actually there are some big schools in both North Louisiana and South Louisiana that follow it.
So what I'm hearing is there are big schools in both east Louisiana AND west Louisiana that follow it as well.
What about Central LA and Non-Central LA?

Well my daughter helped start a women's lacrosse team at LSU 2 years ago. Initially they were on probation with the SEC and had to play in tournments against whoever to prove they were viable. They played Bama, Auburn and several other teams all on the road. There is a men's team as well. They had to go thru a long process and the gals are true Tigers!

Where are you getting those numbers? I played in the late 80's and it was no where near that expensive. I even got the Student Govt to give us money for uniforms and we would get some reimbursement for travel expenses.

Soccer would happen way before lacrosse.

Absolutely. If there's anything Joe Alleva wants, it's to add sports that are revenue drains on the athletic department.

I think a lacrosse team would be awesome but how will it get funded? You'd need a womens team as well thanks to dumbass rules and I'm not for paying more money to TAF just to get it. Football pays for all other sports for the most part. I'd be In favor of cutting golf for lacrosse in a heartbeat though.

Wrong. There is no interest in women's lacrosse; therefore men's lacrosse which has a following can't be allowed because of title 9. "interest" studies initiated by Bush were banned by Obama. So, no lacrosse at LSU because of Title 9.
I thought they just have to add some kind of women's sport, not necessarily the women's version of the male sport added.
I hope this happens. As some have said, the sport is growing at an alarming rate. I'm too old to have played it, but I've seen it on TV some and it's crazy entertaining. It's like the offense of basketball combined with the hitting and speed of hockey only it's on grass and more scoring. I wish they had it at my high school when I went through.
