I seem to remember the great athletes Stromile Swift and Jabari Smith getting their asses kicked up and down the court by a bunch un-athletic white guys from the university of wisconsin.
And I remember Garrett Temple and Tyrus Thomas shutting down a bunch of unathletic white guys from Duke.

MFV you are so correct. They played basketball the way it should be played and kicked our arse that night. This post is just wrong on so many levels. We get 2 very solid 4 year players and people are bitching. These players are not Ross Nelter reincarnated...they can play SEC basketball.

I don't understand why is matters they are white. As mentioned earlier in the thread some of the best players in college are white. Should we stop recruiting black people for our baseball team? There were few black players in the CWS does that mean there are no good black players to recruit?

Brandon Bass = 6'8"

Actually, if you look at the SEC rosters you will see one or two 6-9/6-10 guys, but the majority are 6-7/6-8.

I was talking 1A high school teams. How many 1A high school teams have 6'7 and 6'8 players in their starting lineup like Country Day did last year? The competition against Country Day couldn't have been too tough.

Ross Neltner is exactly who I picture when I look at these guys. You realize Neltner was Mr. Kentucky in basketball his senior year, right?

allow LSU to compete for a SEC championship or NC?
aside from all the bullshite you've had to take..the answer is no Derenbecker will not be the star of any team competing for a championship but he can be a good 3rd or 4th guy

Country Day has one of the most respected HS coaches in the state, which is why Derendecker transferred there from a 5A school.

Also, last summer that "athletically limited" white guy from Country Day dropped 52 in a AAU tourney in FL, against other national top prospects.

Billy Donovan, who was in audiance, compared Derendecker's game to Calathes (another "athletically limited white kid")

So STFU bc you obviously have no clue what you are talking about

Yes, he still played at Vanderbilt. I never said these guys weren't SEC caliber. What I'm saying is that these players need to be surrounded by other, better players, in order for the team to be successful. These guys will have a role, but I don't see either one carrying a team to an SEC championship ala Marcus Thornton and Tasmin Mitchell.

Thank God somebody gets it! And the problem is I havn't seen 2 or 3 guys that LSU is signing that are better than he is. That's all I'm saying.

His high school coach was quoted as saying that he was not super athletic guy.

I am going to assume these are white athletes. I think it would serve lsu basketball well to have two white b'ball players that can actually heavily contribute to the team, and it will increase ticket sales.

Are you insinuating that skin color and athleticism go hand in hand? Big Baby is probably the best player at LSU in the past 10 years and I don't think he was very athletic. And the only 2 former LSU players in the NBA Hall of Fame don't have that skin color you seem to associate with "athleticism". FWIW, athleticism is highly overated in basketball. It's pretty good for blocking shots and dunking but you don't need a whole lot of athleticism to dribble, shoot jumpers and free throws, block out, defend or make smart passes.....or provide leadrship.

great point. Man, bet this guy would be so pissed off if we signed a Pete Maravich type of player today. We'd never win a game with a 6'5", 185lb white kid

I'm sure he'd rather take an inner-city kid from Chicago that has somebody take his SAT's for him so that he can prostitute the LSU program for a year before leaving for the NBA and we end up on probation. That worked out pretty good for Calipari.
