lol at all this Crowton hate..
I hope he fricking tears it up at Maryland. This guy got so much flack and I believe most of it was unwarranted.
You believe wrong.
He will probably tear it up at Maryland this year though, but our offense will be much better as well.
pffft, nobody loves to run the ball like Randy Edsall. He HATES trickery. We'll see how that marriage works out.

Very characteristic!
But we all know it was Miles' overruling of Crowton's plays...
i disagree pretty strongly with that sentiment.

I dont think we'll ever know what Gary had in stored for LSU becuase he was never given the reigns to do what he wanted, he was always having to bend and conform his offense to what Coach Miles wanted it to be and they were opposite. Les wants a pro style, B10 power running style offense and Gary wanted a spread em out style offense with some option built in...they didn't mesh at all, top it all off with the incompetence of JJ and the 2008 version of General Lee and the sum of our parts was some bad bad offenses
go back and watch the cotton bowl. were you unhappy with that offense. it was power running and play action throwing deep.
how often did crowton take shots down the field??
if you weren't happy with the O vs tamu, then i can't help you and you truly just don't like miles no matter what.

What else could he do with the talent at UCONN?
and plus, they ran it pretty well

The one he made accepting the LSU job !!

Worst Gary Crowton call?
All issues were with Miles and JJ.

Then you're just wrong, I've heard from a couple higher ups that this was a frequent..

How often could Crowton take shots down the field?! We had a qb that couldn't throw down the field. One good game after having a month to prepare for it, not that huge of a deal
I loved the offense vs TAMU, I just wish we saw it more than once a year

E. Whatever the play call was on Fourth down at Auburn in 2010. The WRs didn't know where to line up and it didn't appear that anyone was on the same page.
Wasn't that coming out of a timeout to boot?

He called a flea flicker out of the endzone at Oregon that was pretty great.

I never saw his Oregon stats but he had all the talent in the world to make his spread offense work here at LSU but he was never given the freedom to.
Compare the 05 and 06 offenses to any of Crowton's offense and tell me if you don't see a huge difference. The only reason Miles got involved is because the offense tanked under Crowton. Miles biggest mistake was not firing Crowton after 2009.

we did a lot of the same stuff vs. Ole Miss actually. mixing power running, the option, play action, and going deep. D-Lo just kept getting tackled by the grass, so nobody noticed the downfield passing.

D. 2010 vs. Tennessee...quote:
Crowton calls for a massive substitution
This was bad, but the real horrible call came before. The package included a bunch of tight ends and NONE of our receivers. So, it was either run the ball again, pass to a tight end, or do the massive sub. That package should not have been in at that time to begin with.

first play against uga in 2008. rs fresh qb throw over the middle which he struggled with all season. seems like since that day les/gary went into uber conservative mode.

C. 2009 vs. Ole Miss. Down by 2 and in FG range, all LSU has to do is run the ball a few times and kick a FG for the game winner. But Crowton called a pass play where Jefferson dropped back 7 yards or so - he was of course sacked and LSU was out of FG range. This was, imo, worse then the hail mary WTF we actually caught it!! play..
Had to be the WORST since I was there and I work with a bunch of candy arse Ole Miss Lawyers!!!

Th
funny i heard different. a lot of people say and hear things i guess.
so it took JJ a month to learn how to throw deep? you're smarter than that.
the play calls in that game were vastly different than the rest of the season under crowton. probably because at that point gary had been told to update his resume'.

Honestly I could think of a lot of idiotic plays from 2007 that he called. The only difference was that they usually worked.

Worst Gary Crowton call?
A. 2009 against Penn State. Down 19-17 with 40 seconds left and no timeouts, Crowton calls a screen pass to the middle of the field. It gets stuffed and time runs out.
B. 2008 vs. Alabama. In OT, on 3rd and short besides running for a 1st down, he put the game in redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee's hands, who already threw 3 ints. this game, and went for the end zone where it was picked off.
C. 2009 vs. Ole Miss. Down by 2 and in FG range, all LSU has to do is run the ball a few times and kick a FG for the game winner. But Crowton called a pass play where Jefferson dropped back 7 yards or so - he was of course sacked and LSU was out of FG range. D. 2010 vs. Tennessee. Lee leads a great, potential game winning drive down the field. With 30 seconds left inside the 5 yard line - Crowton calls for a massive substitution, changing WRs, QBs, and TEs besides just leaving the same players in. Mass confusion leads to a blown play, thank god T-Bob Hebert snapped the ball.
E. I'm sure there are plenty others.
Plug in Oregon and some PAC-10 opponents and these sound WAY TOO FAMILIAR!!!!!!!!!

Any contributions from Oregon fans are appreciated. Even though I hate y'all this week, I'm gonna use our mutual loathing of Crowton's playcalling as a sign of solidarity.

This will happen.
Crowton's time at LSU is over, thank God. He will do very well at Maryland with O'Brien and we will do better here.
Crowton was not THE problem...he was part of the problem. Several people had roles in our complete offensive failure of the past few years: Crowton's unadaptable offense, Miles' conservative ball control philosophy, Jefferson's inability, Lee's being thrown to the wolves as a freshman, Perrilloux's idiocy.
Some people want to put all the blame on Crowton...that is neither fair nor accurate. Its not all his fault, just like its not all Miles' fault...or Jefferson's fault...or Lee's fault...or Perrilloux's fault. It takes a lot of people failing to end up with the clusterfrick we have had to witness.
Posted on 8/31/11 at 12:44 pm to south bama tiger
The bad play call on D was the fact there wasn't a second play sent in with JJ. I think the subs on the failed JJ run and trying to run it in was a good call. We simply have a hard time thinking more than one chess move ahead and this is a very common theme with LSU.
