We took the 2nd half off and we had three injuries (two at DT). Also, Beckwith was already out and Byrd saw limited PT because he was nursing a sore ankle or something. He still scored a TD, though.

Secondary issues, not putting the game away in the second half. Spending more time on developing a young QB than running up the score and squashing Moo U.

Combination of things. I wasn't thrilled.

I don't think LSU was in the right frame of mind. That's not State's problem, and they exposed some weaknesses. Still, the game was never in doubt and they did score late in the game.

'Course, in the previous 7 games we had beaten them by an avg of 42-7 ,so they were trying to redeem themselves, too.

State came reday to play, and their new QB is much better than we expected. They also have very good line play on both sides of the ball. Truth is we were played flat after getting a big lead.

Seriously, the turnovers in the 2nd quarter killed us putting the score at 24 or 31 to 3 going into half.

17-10 is mucho different. Lee was good at eluding the sack as well.

Stuff happens? Its football? MSU has SEC athletes? They've been our bitches for years now, sooner or later they were going to defy the odds/streak and give us a game.

They didn't give us much of a game.

Beside LSU just not having a good game...which alot of highly ranked teams have been guilty of latey, Ill add a few others..

LSU did not prepare nearly as much for Lee to be the QB of MSU. That was definately a surprise.

LSU was without mlb Darry Beckwith...and lost 2 starting DTs during the game.

LSU played an EXTREMELY vanilla and non-aggressive defense in this game. There was very little blitzing and very little bump and run hard nose coverage by the corners.

LSU has 3 new starters in the defensive backfield, and they have been confused on a number of occasions. I see a handfull of breakdowns happening against the Gators.

And some turnovers in the second half didnt help either.

It wasnt pretty but Ill take the win.

This is gonna be a great game. Either team winning will not surprise me...but a blowout by either team would be very surprising.

A team cannot get sky high for every game. They would be emotionally drained before the season is over.

This year LSU will get emotionally charged for the Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Bama games. It is the mark of a good team when they can win with their B game in a business like fashion.

What was the deal with that game? MSU putting up 24 in your house?

Injuries, and probably being a little dinged from Auburn. Auburn came out flat the next week too after they played us. Was a hard hitting game.

Injuries? Bad day?

I think you nailed it... also add "flat" to the list as well.

I knew Miss St. was not a bad team, esp. the way they played against Auburn. But I am afraid it was one of those games that they looked at as a pushover and it almost bit us in the arse. Im sure you know the feeling...hence Ole Miss.

I mean, watching the game you really had a comfortable feeling the Tigers were going to pull it out b/c they controlled the game easily, but Miss St. just kept pecking away. I hate having this attitude with teams, especially with teams in the SEC.

It never fails we usually have a couple really flat games each year. That was definitely one out of the way..

BTW..welcome to the Rant... your a class act fan. Going to be a GREAT game Saturday... but with that said..I hope we kick your arse!

same thing i've been wondering. I'm not going to make any excuses, like injuries. All teams deal with injuries, its a part of the game. We were damn lucky Moo U didnt score more, and ourselves less. We fumbled a td in the endzone and luckily recovered, and some MOO U receivers dropped balls for no reason. I was at the game, I know what I saw. This kind of game in the swamp, and it wont be pretty
