Are ice cream scoopers really being paid 20 bucks an hour?

I saw a story on tv a few days ago talking about how much more summer jobs are paying this summer than last.
Burger flippers and ice cream scoopers are making 20 bucks an hour.
Hard for me to believe if true.

Places in destin were having to pay people like $18 dollars an hour to wash dishes a year or two ago.

Would you scoop ice cream for $20 an hour?

For a summer job? Hell yeah.

Some guy said swimming pools were having trouble finding life guards because it doesn't pay as much.

They should head to California. Lifeguards make 300k there (I realize a shack is a million dollars, but still).

Is it really hard to believe with our inflation and how things are in some labor markets?

As a high school or college kid summer job? Yeah

Geez. In 2018 I started at a shitty startup making $12 an hour. I could have made 4x as much working at a high end restaurant, but wanted to actually go on a career path (and was dumb).
This amount of money is honestly a trap. Making that much is just enough to keep you too comfortable to pursue higher aspirations.

Making 20 dollars an hour isn't comfortable income today

No doubt, but it's just enough to eke out a shitty existence. For example, in my waiter days I'd usually bring home about $600 per week after taxes in Baton Rouge. My rent with a roommate was $600, I spent about $600 in a month on food, $600 a month on various bills, and usually have $600 left over which was just enough to dick around.
I guess now even with a roommate rent is more like 800-1000, and the other bills are higher, but it's still a far shot better than the $11 they would have gotten for this five years ago.

Do you know how much these places charge for an ice cream cone?

I’m in San Fran and In-N-Out is advertising starting pay at $21/hr

$26 an hour at Panda Express is insane truly.

Employers aren't paying for the cost of skills needed anymore. The main skill they need is someone to consistently show up and $20/hr for an entry level job seems to be about the going rate to keep people coming back.

Which would be like $10/hr in many places. Maybe they can hire some homeless people for that wage.
