I bought a truck in Texas several years back. I didn’t pay any TTL fees there. A week or 2 later they FedEx’d me the title and I went to the DMV and paid La TTL and got my plate

I've done this a couple of times. Very simple.

Live in Texas and bought my last car in Virginia.

They could ship it, however it was cheaper to get a one way ticket and drive it home.

Cars are shipped all the time, but it is not cheap and comes with possible headaches. How far away is car you are wanting?

When buying a car out of state, you do not pay the sales tax of the state purchased in. You pay sales tax at registration of the state you are in.

Some dealers will collect it on your behalf, others will let you handle it. Your local state is going to get their money, you did not avoid anything. If you did, it was illegal.
