Car insurance

Our youngest just moved and changed residency to another state and is shopping for car insurance.
She told me that she has gotten quotes from Geico, Liberty Mutual and Farm Bureau so far; she's waiting on State Farm. She's asking me if company makes a difference and while I'm guessing it does if you have to file a claim, I can't tell her about any others as we've always had Farm Bureau due to my husbands line of work and policies he needs.
Are Geico and Liberty Mutual decent companies? The coverages (I told her she needed to compare apples to apples) are the same but their premiums are a little lower.
Also, she's pricing current coverage as she was on our policy ... she's got some savings but no house etc ... is looking at lower coverage worth it or just risky?

What’s her vehicle worth? What kind of assets does she have? What level of coverage does she have currently?

50/100/50
She’s got about $20,000 in savings and cars about $10,000

Can't speak for the first 3 as I've never dealt with them, but I have had 2 accidents with people with State Farm and both times they paid with very little hassle. They even offered to throw some money at me for pain & suffering to close the claim, and make sure I don't try to file a suit 8 months later.
Progressive seemed to be pretty good in paying my claim once they acknowledged fault. But I did have to fight them pretty hard because the drunk driver was an excluded driver on the policy and we both had Progressive; so they were trying to force my policy to pay the claim and make me pay my deductible.

I probably wouldn’t go below 50/100/50. The next level down is 25/50/25 right? So many vehicles worth well over $25k these days..
Once the car is at $5-6k value I would likely drop comp and collision coverage to save some money. That’s just a level of risk I’m comfortable with personally.

The companies are all about the same for auto insurance.
You are more likely to get a bad claims experience because of a bad auto body shop than because of a claims adjustors.
Coverages are not the same, though.
Is she getting guaranteed OEM replacement parts?
Is she getting better car/new car replacement?
How do the glass deductibles matchup?
How does the roadside coverage work (who pays direct to the tow truck? Coverage by the mile? Or dollar amount?)
Is she getting accident or violation forgiveness?
Is there a diminishing deductible?
Generally speaking, the best claims experiences have the best coverages. She will be happier with the lower deductible, higher liability/uninsured motorist.
And some of those "add-ons" referenced above may make her happy in a claim.
Home insurance is a different beast because each company's claims manual can vary drastically (how many hail hits does it take to total out a roof in a claim?).
But for auto? Go with the cheapest company who has the most desired "add-ons" and coverage limits.

Filing a claim on another driver's insurance and filing a claim on your own policy are 2 completely different situations.
I wouldn't even compare the 2 experiences as they are irrelevant to one another.
Progressive and All-State can be nightmares if you are filing against someone else's policy. But they could be great if you are their customer. Apples and Oranges.
