Usage up 5% from June but bill jumped 40%.
Cleco included a nice note about their 75% natural gas cost increase and except it to go higher too.
Current situation is beyond the Carter years and this "administration" has another 2.5 years to completely destroy this country.

I said 2 months ago this was the next crisis… don’t see how the 50% of people living paycheck to paycheck can afford 3-500 energy bills.

Put it on credit card, max out credit card, default, crash…

I guess I'm lucky to live in a TVA region. Rate increases have been minimal. Granted the majority of their electricity is generated through nuclear and hydro-electric.

I don’t see how people are broadly going to afford hundreds of dollars of increases in a monthly bill (which is unpredictable).

Yup, I assume most of the bill increases folks are seeing is due to high natural gas prices, which are passed straight through to customers. And also maybe some rebuild costs from storms the last couple of years.

Natural gas is going up in price quick. It currently accounts for about 40% of the fuel used in creating our electricity. By 2030 it’s going to account for 75. You’re going to miss these 300-500 electricity bills

78-79 from 6-7 am to 6 pm then try to bring it down to 72-75 for night.

How about groceries? Sliced Turkey from $6.99/LB to $10.49 since January. Just jumped from 9.49 to 10.49 in a week. Price on counter says 9.49 but Rouses rings it at $10.49. Told them to keep it.
$2 bag of chips jumped to $3.49.

Totally out of control.

In Texas, with the ability to switch providers at any time, its still out of control.

What was 7.9 cents for 1k kWh and a 6-12 month agreement is now, at minimum 15.9 and a 36 month agreement.

I know, because I just had to switch bc my prior contract ended.

fricking ridiculous.

Price of natural gas is double what it was a year ago and triple what it was 2 years ago. Even with Cleco's new rate structure, their per kWh cost is among the lowest in the entire country (0.06 - 0.08 - 0.10 per kWh). Louisiana electricity rates are effectively subsidized by large industrial customers, keeping the retail consumers' cost extremely low.

Imagine you lived in the Northeast where you'd pay 0.13-0.15 per kWh plus the fuel adjustment, your bills would be double what they are today!!

The USA sits on an ocean of natural gas but the current administration is hamstringing the energy industry, plus the political turmoil in Europe, equals high natural gas prices. FJB!

For now, yes, but that’s about to change. These large industries are really what is forcing the power generation side to go “more green”. The feds are saying that these refineries and chemical plants are responsible for the pollution caused in power plants, forcing us residential customers to go more green as a byproduct. It’s all a fricked up game by the federal government, especially when many countries are burning whatever they can for electricity.
