I can’t imagine the royalty argument would be any easier in the state of California than it is in Arkansas.

Frack California. They are the anti- energy state outside of consumption.

Doesn't SLI own some land at/near the Salton Sea?

Old news. Concentrations are much, much lower than the Smackover formation. SLI has land there or did. See Salton Sea Project that was on their website.

SLI lithium is the “Blue Sky” (Beaking Bad) of the lithium business, baby!!

Salton Sea apparently has over 400mg/L concentrations.
Standard's Bristol Lake location in San Bernardino, California is different and has concentrations of only about 125 mg/L. SLI's website points to using evaporation ponds there, which makes sense because those grades are too low for profitable DLE.
The knock on Salton Sea has been that it is geothermal brine so its high temperature makes it harsh on equipment and hard to work with. Haven't been keeping up with anyone's progress there but haven't heard anything about it lately.

Your right. In the same vicinity. It seems like SLI did evaluate the Salton sea area before deciding the Smackover brine was the way to go. Lithium is everywhere. The key is extracting it in a manner that is actually green and cost effective. Hopefully, that's the edge we have. If it really is about "green" energy, lithium extracted from the Smackover brine seems to be the greenest.

A little cause for optimism. Standard and co have taken the pre-hearing judge's recommendation and amended their royalty application to include specific production units. Before, they only specified that they wanted a royalty set for 4 counties across the Arkansas Smackover Formation. The judge thought that might be a legal issue for the commission, who has to decide the royalty for production "units." Glad they got it in before the hearing next Monday and Tuesday

What was the deal with objections to the guys background and what can't be "admissible in any court in the country." They got on his arse about not being able to produce numbers.
