One of these rednecks I know will invest in some type of rolling meth lab. Investing in drugs is redneck for long term financial plan. You can take the redneck out of the trailer, but you cant take the trailer out of the redneck.

Yeah I wasn't talking about Jersey's OP necessarily, but the follow ups definitely look down their nose a bit at the people who are coming into money. I remember one guy suggested investing in truck nutz.
I mean, it's a simple fact that some uneducated folks will come into money. The NYT article comes off as unnecessarily snooty and dismissive, but I don't think that makes it inaccurate.

My email to the author:

Mr. Nossiter,
I just wanted to drop you a line and express my admiration of your glowing article about the current economic windfall that has blessed my "forgotten corner of the South." I especially love the portrayal of my fellow Louisianans and other southerners as back-country yokels that don't know what to do with all that pretty new money. As I type this letter in my "rusty trailer," sip my malt liquor, and yell at my kids to stop shooting one the neighbor's 18 cats, I begin to wonder if you've ever been outside of your cocoon. I'm sure you're even dumbfounded at the fact that my tiny little redneck brain knows how to access a computer. I think your article is a perfect example of the elitist, condescending view that people at the New York Times have of my state and the South. It's not a bad thing to have better people, food, culture, sports, quality of life, families, recreation, etc. than you do. I guess I can understand your jealousy of the South. The fact that I came across this article on Tigerdroppings.com (an LSU fansite) shows how meaningful your article really is. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
E.W.
P.S. We can do satire.

Not speaking for Shreveport, but I spent the first 25 or so years of my life in DeSoto Parish and it's not completely inaccurate.

I don't see what all the bitching's about. As long as they think there's nothing but a bunch of dust and dip spit down here they'll keep they're fricking yankee asses up north.
The south - best kept secret on the planet.

That's what they said about Montana. The Yankees have already invaded the lower East Coast.

Hi Simba-
Its only you if you are one of the many asking over and over about "100% royalties" and how they can get them with out paying for anything. I guess I am a little tired of the question.

It's true and the Yankees (Californians included because they are Yankees) have certainly invaded the lower western part of the state.
I grew up in Sport and I have family members who don't own an inch of land (but Mommy does) positively obsessed with this Haynesville Shale business. It's making me crazy.

I recently read an article from this same website about the movie industry taking off in Shreveport. The author was very gracious about the people here, and seemed to be impressed by what he saw in the region.
I've lived in Shreveport/Bossier City my entire life, with a year in Baton Rouge. In the 80's after the oil boom had crashed, SBC had to have been the most depressing place in the state. All we had were a few modest processing plants and the Weedeater Bowl.
As the 90's grew into the new millenium, and with the addition of successful casino gaming, the area started to blossom back into it's glory years of the 40's through the 70's. New leadership with agressive vision over past 8 years has this place primed to become one of the best cities of the south to live and play.
With the near completion of I-49, the coming of I-69, the movie industry, the Haynesville Shale, the still popular casino market, and hope of the Cyber Command Center, Shreveport/Bossier will be an important hub of the region and state. Not to mention all the great recreational opportunities, the Boardwalk, the soon to be completed Villagio, expansion at the Port, and modest price of living.
