They are full of shite about going to Europe being cheaper. Is it possible if you do everything on a tight budget for europe during the off season to be close to a summer trip to 30a? Yes.

But the reason a southern family goes to the gulf coast is its the easiest, most affordable, and most entertaining way to get a family together during the summer for the avg consumer of those vacations. That demand drives the prices.

When people say that, I always wonder how are they comparing prices. My family is doing a 4 night trip to Panama Beach at the end of the month, and we "splurged" for a beach house on a private beach. Our costs will be roughly $2,500 for travel & the house. Am I suppose to believe I can get a flight for 4 people and a hotel in Europe for under $2,500 for 4 nights?

In short no. Europe during peak US summer travel season is not cheaper than driving to the Gulf.
