T Boone is heavily leaveraged in Green Energy...Wind, solar, and hugely leveraged in Natural Gas (as an alternative for automobiles). If oil does not go back to 100+/barrel he will be screwed. Opec has less control over the price than you would think. The OPEC countries heavily depend on the sale of crude to meet the operating expenses of thier country. They are making money hand over fist at $30.00 / barrel. They can't afford to sit on supply. (IMHO)

I suspect the oil refineries had stockpiled oil when the prices were low

Most refineries have a very limited amount of storage. Its not like they are sitting over a salt dome. Most can run for less than 15 days if all crude is cut off. Then you have the ones that run multi-grades. They may run for less time, then have to cut back.

LSUDAD what is your reasoning for why the price of oil should/will be higher?

Here's an intriguing question.

What will the price of NG (natural gas) go to if our oil shipments from the Middle East are cut off?

OPEC meeting at the end of the month. Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Obama. Need more answers?

Plus a few other things going on. Gas was $1.76/gal. here in Houston. Its been a while since we've seen that.

Their goal is to make the greatest amount of money. I'm pretty sure their marginal revenue exceeds marginal cost so they are going to keep supplying at these levels. Colonel basically said they still profit until $40/barrel. OPEC has no control over gas prices pales in comparison to the demand destruction going on right now. Obama will have nothing to do with the price of oil.

I think you are looking for things to be black and white. Cause and effect. Obama gets elected- bad for business, raise gas taxes, we go into a depression, etc. Republican gets elected- good for small business, tax cuts trickle down, help consumer spending, get us out the recession quicker.

I really just don't buy it. These things are so much more complex than ideological presidential policies.

Omaha, that's a tribal name.

And, of course, you're exactly correct. A smart investor doesn't allow the manipulated spin to bog down his/her thinking.

Hey, it's about making money, not about ideological punch outs.

And a truly smart investor studies history.

So, if the above thesis is correct, then historically, has the Dow faired better under Democratic administrations or under Repub control of the White House?

People need to open their eyes and question their assumptions.

Hey, if someone wants to lose their gambling money via making bets/picks based upon wrong-minded political thinking, then that's fine. A market needs more losers than winners so the winners can feed off of the poorly invested money of the losers.
