I've argued with DBF as much as anyone on this board, but doesn't him selling at $326 indicate a pretty damn smart move?

That's the way I read his trade(s). And then he took a put position to lower his cost of entry back in. I figured it out quickly. He did pretty good both out, and back in again.
Not sure some followed it, but shrewd trade. Borrowed Warren Buffet's put strategy. Even though Warren once claimed he never did this. I'll not be in Omaha Saturday. Last time I went it was more about selling me furniture than it was about his annual meeting. Deep discounts from Great Nebraska Furniture Mart, or whatever it was.
Different guy for sure, but so am I. I saw no purpose in getting him banned from here.

Also, surely these will bump this thread if it bumps up to $400 down the road right...?

That's how you lower your cost of entry. Again, very, very shrewd trade.
Buffett owns some furniture store out there LUSTOOMAHA. I went to the annual meeting one year and it was like an infomercial about buying discounted furniture. Every numbered chair had a 30% off coupon. Typical liberal.

Yeah, he timed it well. Good for him. Now we'll see if it goes to $415 "in the short term" as he predicted last weekend. But with a beta of 1.14 it's too volatile for me.

I'm confused, so is he just assuming his puts will be back OTM before they expire and he's just picking up a premium?

I think the real benchmark will be the release of Model 3. If it sells the way Musk has talked (which he's clearly talked big), 400s wouldn't be surprising.
Could easily go the other way as well.

If they're OTM, he collects premium. If ITM and exercised, he buys at strike, less premium which he keeps. He picked a re-ntry point, and partially financed it by selling puts.

Well he could have gotten in at 300 it looks like vs. his 310. Not seeing the "shrewdness"

For me the question isn't if the Mod 3 will sell (it will), but will production meet the unit numbers Musk has forecast and which their revenue numbers are based on?
The company produced a record number of cars in the first QUARTER of this year, 25,000 units produced & delivered.
Musk is saying they will be producing and delivering 42,000 Mod 3 vehicles a MONTH by next year.

His re-entry point is closer to 300 than 310 after premium correct? He wanted to be long correct? He's obviously bullish. I think he accomplished what he wanted to. He sold at a gain, and wanted to re-enter at a different cost basis as I read his posts.
Look, I've got no dog in the fight. I don't own tsla. But the guy took a significant gain, and bought back at about what is the current low. When he wanted to short SPX selling naked calls, no one picked that apart more than me, but give him some credit here, he made bank, and is still long, which is what he wanted.
No one knows where it goes from here, and if his re-entry point will be successful or not.

Are you assuming he got $15 premium for the puts he sold?

This is stock agnostic question I'm asking about this strategy. Under this strategy you could miss a run even with your premium. The thought that you could lower your cost basis well if that's the case you could just buy lower.
