Basically at its 52-week low and goes ex-div on 10/10.

Or you just hold the darn thing for the L/T and forget about it with reinvested dividends?

Thoughts?

Another poster had the same idea for cracker barrel a couple years ago. I don’t think it worked out as planned.

Yep, I'm trying to get the girl a little pregnant as they say by playing the dividend at a 52-week low. Probably not the greatest idea but $100 says I can't help myself and hit the 1,000 shares Buy/Market button tomorrow

Here’s the thing. Consumer staples are mostly at all time lows.
That’s because we’re in a raging bull market.

A flight to safety is the only thing that will give those stocks a boost.
The rotation could start tomorrow, next year, or in 2027. I’ve just learned it’s best not guess because none of us will be starting said rotation of equities.

In short, I think there are MUCH better places to put your money.

Now, what would have been better is to have bought on 10/8 and then sold on 10/9 to all the guys buying it up for the ex-div before the closing bell.

I bought and held GIS for a looong time. Got in in 2018…:and made good money as it climbed. So much so that I was able to take out more cash than I put in to invest elsewhere.

What I did wrong was keep my final position way too long and it slowly kept going down. I eventually got out because I needed cash for other investments NOT in a multi year downturn.

That said, now might be a good time to get in but expect a long slog.
