That sounds fantastic. What's the workload like, and how does the class compare to the 2nd half of the first semester class?

Fall course was changed to reflect the exam. You now are required to pass part 1 and 2 to even qualify for an A in the fall course.
Anyone on here take the CISA?

So do you have until December to have passed parts 1 and 2 or do you have to have both of those passed before August?

Not sure why you would do this unless you want to do IT Attestation work...
I'm biased though because internal control design and testing is not my cup-of-tea

Trying to figure out which certs I want to sit for when I graduate and since I'm doing IT I figured it wouldn't be a bad one to have. Only downside is the 5 years experience needed.

I know for the CPA you can sit once you have 150 hours but you don't officially have/receive/entitled to the certification until after having worked for 2 years.

In Louisiana its 1 year (technically its 2000 hours). LINK ][LINK]

Yeah LA changed the rules a little. An I'm already planning on sitting for the CPA lol. Did take all those accounting classes for nothing.

Are you graduating later than planned ?

Been 1 year for at least the last 3 years. I passed in 09 and got my big arse cert in the mail last May.

FYI, most firms will pay for CPA study materials and for you to take the test, so its always a plus to go in with your CPA test passed, but there are benefits to waiting
and yes, do CIA if you're acct, acct is pretty much an automatic internship with CIA

From a quality of life perspective its not even remotely worth the money. Wait and struggle with working full-time for the first time ever, working in a new job in general, and trying to balance your social life with trying to study. Or just take it as soon as you can. I took it before I started full-time and passed all 4 parts between July and September. Most people I know who waited till they started working took much longer or just said frick it.

Yep, which is why I'll do it whenever I have the 150 done. I'll probably have to get my Master's to get all the hours done. A friend told me to take the 2 hard sections first before working and that taking the 2 easier sections while working was a good plan.

From afar you are not the kind of person I'd expect to rack up over 2k posts. Interesting.
Is this a nice way of saying you didn't think I was this much of a loser??

I'm a first year Associate at a Big 4 and went through LSUCIA. I was a FIN major who didn't quite know what to do/never committed to really pursue an interest early enough in college. LSUCIA was my answer to finding a solid job, but I'm hoping to use my current experience as a jumping point into something else. I personally find the acct/auditing world too rigid and stuck in the details, but I'm here and still optimistic that it will help me realize my eventual goals (whatever those may be
).
If you have any desire to do B4, absolutely do the program. If you're like I was--unsure of what to do after college and short on time/experience to pursue other job opportunities--the program is not a bad idea at all. Even though I'm not crazy about the work I do right now, I realize that I have a solid job in a tough economy because of LSUCIA. Time will tell whether I can leverage this experience to get into something more ideal for myself.
Obviously, as a FIN guy, I didn't get my CPA and probably won't ever pursue it. The CPA is hardly a pre-req to go B4 Advisory. Some people do MAcc + CPA after undergrad while interning another summer, which certainly isn't a bad idea, but you can easily jump in with no certification straight out of undergrad.

Which firm and city?
Switch to EY's FSO BAP program and you can leverage your way out of internal audit rather easy.

I remember looking into that program. Had I interned at a Big 4 I may probably could have leveraged mysef into it but my search for a full-time offer was pretty limited to Risk Advisory/IA.
Fortunately, I've gained exposure within my own firm to some of the more pure Advisory service line leaders, but on the flip side, it's because their people are getting staffed on our Risk stuff

Solid post brah. That's what I was trying to say about it but I think I came off as bashing. Its a good thing for college kids to do, but if you know what you want to do and its NOT IA or some kind of service line B4, you're better off just going for it.
