PIIHB?

also, Yonder Mt. String Band is coming to the Varsity tomorrow. should be a good time.

What do you not like about your work, by the way? Is the rigidity too annoying? Also, have you been able to get multiple projects to work on, to change things up?

Trying to get a crew to go. RRE was incredible last weekend.

I'll give you a call soon to catch up about work and whatnot

I'll be applying to all the big 4 Atlanta audit in the fall for an internship. Hopefully an internship will tell me if I like audit or not.

good luck with that

I couldn't rationalize being in audit. The hours have been long enough for me in Advisory that I can't imagine working even more for the same or less pay.

Yeah, that is what I am afraid of. I also have an interview for an ERM consulting position for the summer so hopefully I can get a little taste of everything.

IA is audit. They're just auditing different things. I did both my first year and the differences are smaller than either side cares to admit. They both think they are better and smarter than the other.

Internal Audit and Audit are like first cousins of parents who are twins.

I'm going with a couple of guys you know from the band we saw last year at the shitty tavern at the Northgates of LSU.

And sounds good.

Sounds pretty similar to IA to me.

I completely understand the similarities. My most recent work was essentially typical external audit work. It's the difference in hours that makes the decision pretty easy for me to choose between the two. The fact that audit folks feel the need to stick around until 930pm every night during busy season just because that has somehow become the expectation completely baffles me.

Ditto; great post.

You can add IT Attestation work in that description.

I work harder, longer hours than audit, but I enjoy my job a lot so the hours don't bother me. There have been many times I have laughed at the idea of having 'busy season' hours. It made me even happier I decided against IB. My worst was 50 hours in 3 days....thankfully thats only happened a couple of times.

Anybody ever done one of the global internship opportunities inside of their internship? I'm applying for a global internship which will take me abroad for a few weeks out of the internship I already have. Sounds like a sweet deal, I'm sure it is pretty competitive, but just seeing if any of you folks heard anything or done it before?

I will say this, especially if your intention is to jump to something different: you get out what you put in. Even if you don't like what you do, if you go at it half assed you're either going to get let go when shite inevitably cycles or when you go interview somewhere else they are going to know you DGAF when they interview and ask you what you did. Projects and managers dictate your hours regardless of what service line if B4 or industry you work in. If you go to jump ship and you can't significantly talk about what you actually learned aside from typical bullshite talk, you better be a GREAT bullshitter or you're not going to get an offer. Or you're going to work for a shitty company. People aren't stupid.

Good friend of mine did one. She went to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Absolutely loved it -- but she became a huge marketing tool for the firm...they love to brag about global opportunities

Yeah, the guys on wallstreetoasis would laugh at you while they miserably post on a message board about how shitty their lives are.

Kfiz, I'm looking for a finance/restructuring project to roll onto for a few months (just want to get the experience). I'm thinking something along the lines of business performance improvement, restructuring financials for better operating performance, or maybe distressed business advisory. Any thoughts? I am in the very beginning stages of thinking about what I want to get out of this experience.

100 hour weeks have to make you age 5 years in 2 -- literally. Not to mention the stress levels.

I am averaging 50-55 hours a week. I can't complain.
