New Sales tax increase for EBR

Our office received a notice regarding the implementation of a new 1% Sales tax increase. It is for the Southern University Economic Development District. Once again, this seems like total BS and a money grab by the city-parish. It was supposed to begin on July 1 but we received another notice saying it was pushed back to October 1.
Is there anything us taxpaying business can do to oppose this?

Here for all the doofuses that think a consumption tax is the best taxing system.
You in Louisiana got what you voted for, congrats on your tax increase…, and tax base

City-Parish has no control over this. The district was created by State Legislature in 2023 under SB70. The same bill created an economic development district for LSU.
One of the drivers of the districts was as a way for LSU to raise funds for the new basketball arena.

Is it a parish wide tax or one of those economic districts where it just encompasses small area of the parish.
For instance, I think in St. Tammany they built a shopping center where they used a special taxing district to collect an extra penny sales tax for road and sewer improvements.
So this tax could be just an extra sales tax that maybe collected just on Southern’s campus or stadium. Same could be true for LSU.
