I will ask again. What is your measure?

Now then, what is the beef with tariff revenue under these circumstances?

What is the downside of doing this?

GDP/debt. GDP only insofar as debt is going to increase regardless. What's your measure?

So you are measuring the effects of tariffs on import prices with debt to GDP. Wow.

You have to look at certain data points in CPI. You cannot use CPI as a whole because the majority of it is domestic goods and services.

That's your second self-own in two posts.

I really wish folks could back off the "I'm right -- everyone else is wrong BS," and just consider the contradictory viewpoint.

Well I quit paying attention to you since the time you tried to prove China was paying for the tariffs imposed by Trump. Those were good times. I just laughed and laughed.

I will say this again in regards to tariffs.

You can take all the great "right wing" economists from the last fifty years. They are all in 100% agreement that tariffs will harm the economy.

I am on their side. You are not. That is fine. You can have your opinion.

Now then, rerun their calculations with massive trade deficits, massive budget deficits, and a massive national deficit.

State Sales Taxes are paid on the sales price including the tariff. State and local Gov's should get more revenue because of the tariffs.

You have changed the talking point 3 times. Feom inflation to prices to carve outs and now you are changing it to import prices.

The topic is tariffs. So naturally those things will be discussed.

You've made your TDS (Tariff Derangement Syndrome) obvious.

We could address tariffs as a counter to post-WWII predatory trade practices, practices that eventually hobbled domestic industries. We could talk about the stupidity of inflationary assumptions tied to tariffs. We could juxtapose your TDS with your position on corporate taxation. We could discuss the negotiation angle of higher tariff threats, and the effects those had on reductions of trade restrictions abroad, or a dozen other issues.

I didn't even go there though. I simply pointed out the indisputable budgetary effect of tariff revenues. You then proceeded to dispute the indisputable.

You mean libertarian economists..... Most of them advocated for open boarders too. It took decades for Milton to admit it would not work in a welfare state. But he still advocated for it.

Your issue is that you can not view the whole picture of our history. Your problem is you only view the results you want to and ignore the whole picture.

And.... Maybe look at how we have those and how their ideas played a role
