If you need it in a year, you will need to put it very low risk. Such as CDs and money markets.
Hard to "invest" in only a one year.

If you were thinking stock market I'd split the 5000 up and invest 500 in 10 different ETF's or Stocks or a variation of that strategy like 1000 in 5 Stocks or Stocks. You really have to find your own things to invest in by not asking. People that will suggest you buy a particular something might be right or might be wrong especially in a short turn around time like a year
