The problem is that Wisconsin fans think they play a good brand or style of basketball. They actually think they play an exciting or winning style of basketball. You ever notice how they can't attract good recruits? They have to play a harsh, brutal, thuggish style of grab and foul basketball. For a supposedly good program they are horrible on the transition or fast break.
The root of the problem goes back to hiring people like Dick Bennett, Bo Ryan, and Gaard. Dick and Bo came out of division 3 style ball where you can't get good athletes so you play a slow, grind it out, play as physical as you can and stifle the game since you clearly lack the athletes.
You can be physical like Michigan State and still play good exciting basketball. Magic Johnson brought the transition game to LA from MSU. Rebound hard and then score quick on the transition or fast break and let your guys run.
Wisconsin style basketball is to slow the game down, discourage creativity, mug people, force your bad style of play and bad basketball on others.
What is tragic is that they actually think they play good basketball or that people around the country want to watch Wisconsin basketball like they do Duke, UNC, Kentucky, or Michigan State.

They definitely play a winning style of basketball.

Neither UW or UVA are ever going to recruit with the blue bloods. I don't know about UW, but UVA is recruiting at a higher level than they have since I've payed attention to basketball (late 90s or so). It's because they're winning.
You're just wrong about this. Not every program is going to sign a bunch of 5*s, especially in an era where shoe companies have dictated so much. Programs that don't sign those guys need to find a different plan.

Exciting? That's to the eye of the beholder. Winning-style? Yes, they absolutely do play a winning-style of basketball.

Greg Gard has two freshmen that were consensus four-stars in 2017 and another that was rated a four-star by, at least, one major recruiting service. It's, arguably, the best class Wisconsin has ever had. Is it to the level of Duke, Kentucky, etc.? No. However, when you can land quality players like this in a system that notoriously takes three-star, developmental prospects, you're doing something right.

It was less than three years ago that Wisconsin ended the year with the highest AdjO in the KenPom era.

Damn, Wisconsin must be doing something right.

RALPH!!!!!! I knew I could count on you
Did you miss the part where UNC scored 45 the other night?
Listen, I'm not saying last night was a good game. It wasn't. It was terrible, shitty, and I apologize to anyone who suffered through it like us Badger fans. The team played like crap and the low score was more a product of God-awful shooting.
Now I know you're an MSU slappy, and good for you on that, but that clearly leads to you saying flat out dumb things.
We don't get good recruits? Shirley you can't be serious. The recruits we got took us to back-to-back Final Fours including a trip to the National Championship game. When was the last time MSUs elite recruits got to them to the natty? (I know, it's 2009 where they got worked)
It's not an interesting brand of basketball to watch? Last night and often in the past, I would agree with you. But anyone who watched past tourney games against Arizona and Kentucky (including the one we lost) and thinks that wasn't great basketball is an idiot and perhaps just doesn't enjoy hoops.
But hey, you guys do have a great squad this year, so hopefully they break the trend of a first or second round exit in March. We don't want Izzo getting the reputation of underachieving when it matters

Wisconsin never has and never will play ball with those guys...don't even try to because the admin and coaches don't want the stink of them on us.

I will say Texas does find a way to make it interesting while losing in both sports. If losing with style is all the matters, why'd you run off Strong?
