The Zachary team that will play Ruston Friday night is playing at a completely different level than the team that played Catholic.
What changed so much for them in 3 weeks?

It seems like they just had a very favorable playoff bracket with denham and central

A lot, less penalties, turnovers, miss tackles, just overall better football.
How is facing Central at their place a favorable bracket? They are the defending state champs. Their only loses were to LCA and Catholic.

Catholic scored 58 against central in a drubbing…..

Every single one of the public school Semifinal teams lost to the private school team they played…..

I want the public’s to be laughed at for how inferior they are for continually voting for the split. They are getting worse. And if more people pointed that out maybe they would stop voting so…..

I personally hate the split. The split only gives the private and select schools more ability to recruit areas outside of BR.

The rise of charter schools combined with traditional public schools closing and consolidating will eventually give selects enough votes to do away with the split or greatly modify it. But from a historical perspective in the highest classification since integration privates have only won in the 70s BM 71, SA 75, 78 and 79, Shaw 87, ECA 99, 02, 04(then play in class came) no private titles in biggest class till Rummel in 2012. Go look at the disparity in the smaller classes and when play in class was in play. There are your reasons the split will likely never go completely away.

If you don't think publics recruit you are fooling yourself.

Just for shits and giggles, how do you see this game going, Cash?

Probably a toss up. A cold wet field probably favors Notre Dame.

At one time, Ohio made schools that could take kids from areas other than their own play up, instead of having a split. That didn't please people either.

Dayton Daily News: Competitive balance impact? Only one private school reaches state football finals

It might be just a coincidence, but the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s competitive balance initiative seems to have made an impact in its debut this fall, especially in the high school football state championships.

There are 14 teams that will vie for seven divisional state championships this week at Canton’s new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Of those, all but one are public schools.

quote:

That’s significant, because competitive balance has its roots in a disproportionate amount of private schools that won state championships over about a 10-year period, particularly in football and boys and girls basketball.

Some schools want to try a public/private split.

Yppi forum: Is a Public-Private Split on the Horizon?

quote:

Nov 20, 2025
Spoke with a prominent Superintendent over the weekend. He said that wheels are in motion for a group of school districts to create a referendum to split Public-Private schools within OHSAA tournaments. He stated that momentum has grown over this issue within superintendents in his area of the state and felt confident that a vote could be brought up in the spring among member schools.

This isn't the thread for this debate, but Ohio has the same problem.

Ouachita could win this game. Would not surprise me one bit. They gave Ruston and Neville all the wanted in the regular season.

Joachim Bourgeois is 165 lbs. but runs like a bull for Notre Dame.

He has scored on the first offensive play of the game for ND six times this year.

The problem for Notre Dame is that most of their games against good opponents have been battles of attrition after that first play.

I haven’t watched Lewis Cook for very long, but this team is his best coaching performance that I’ve seen. Multiple games this year where his coaching was clearly (in my mind) the difference.

That doesn’t even get into how the team prepares from a physical standpoint or their buy-in/commitment compared to the teams they face. Just talking about how he manages the game and clock to get a win while facing obvious talent disparity.

Look at what you said, in typical Louisiana fashion the public schools created something on the split that is leading to their demise

They owned Louisiana football for the most part before the split. Now, the private are clearly better

I believe so, yes. QB is too, as well as a couple Duplechain brothers.

The privates owned the smaller classes and Catholic lost to a public that didn't play after thanksgiving. shaw lost to belle chasse. Charters are hurting enrollment at private schools as well, and charters will continue to increase. There are only a handfull of privates who are at or even near being full now a days.

Before the split there were 2 private schools that dominated their class for the most part evangel and JC. JC never played at the top classification and evangel did work their way up but didn’t dominate . At the end of the day charter changed everything as well and the playoffs are watered down on both sides . Catholic may beat these schools in regular season. But could never win without the spit . They had some great teams before the split and just never finished

Maybe not dominate but they were dominating which is why they got booted back down to their enrollment size along with JC which led to this mess
