Only Tony Gonzalez has more career receptions at TE than Witten. Witten has around 300 more career receptions than Antonio Gates and Gates got in on his first try.

Witten, Brees, Fitzgerald, and Gore should all get elected next year.

Fitz was one of my favorite players of all time to watch, my 2nd favorite receiver.

That said, I believe Pouncey has more All Pro selections than anyone else on that list, and is on the All Decade team like a couple of them.

I know Center isn’t a sexy position, but he should get in ahead of dudes who gathered longevity stats, like Gore.

I wonder if Gore will get dinged for being a compiler. He was a beast, but never really in the conversation for being the best at his position. Around FOREVER though which is a testament in and of itself at that position

Brees and Fitzgerald first-ballot locks. Gore will likely make it but probably not first-time around, lots of names that probably should make it but aren't in yet that might take his place Kuechly, Suggs, Reggie Wayne, Holt etc

Frank Gore needs to be in the “Hall of Longevity”

I am not sure his lengthy career gets him in but he probably should be in at some point.

What is the argument for Witten not to be first ballot?

Not being one of the top 3 at his position during his playing time.., no signature plays or memorable moments to speak of

He did it on both knees being repaired and is a dog, should most definitely be a first ballot HOF. The Miami team he was on had Portis after he got hurt, then he fell to the 3rd round.

Drew Brees - multiple passing records, multiple all pro, SB MVP. Should have arguably won a couple of MVPs in his career, but someone always had one of those "generational" years. Was a top 3-5QB for nearly 15 years.

Also owned all the records when he retired.

You right.,, I don’t think he was ever perceived as a Tip 3 tight end though from a public perspective.,,

I can’t recall how many are allowed in at a time but that would be the only reason IMO. Guys like Fitz and Brees are obviously higher priorities if there is a limit of some kind.

There is no set number of new enshrinees, but the Committee’s current ground rules do stipulate that between four and eight new members will be selected each year.

Guys that didn’t get in this year that I assume actually have a chance:
Eli
Torrey Holt
Keuchly
Suggs
Fred Taylor
Vinateiri
Reggie Wayne
Marshall Yanda

Written is in over almost all of those guys

I love how you have one person saying Witten should not get in because he was not a top 3 TE when he was playing (spoiler alert, he was) and another person arguing that Brees should get because he was a "top 3 to 5 QB for 15 years." Which is it? Being top 3 (which means being #3 or else people would be calling you a top 2 player at your position or best player at your position) means you aren't an All-Pro at your position if you play TE or QB. They don't have third team All-Pros. Can you imagine how ridiculous this argument is if you apply it to other sports? Roberto Clemente shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame because he was not a top 3 outfielder in the era of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, and Mickey Mantle. Al McInnis and Rob Blake shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame because they were not top three defensemen in the era of Ray Bourque, Chris Chelios, Paul Coffey, and Scott Stevens. Lee Trevino shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame because he was not a top three golfer in the era of Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player. Some of you are so focused on making sure your Hall of Fames aren't "watered down" that you want them to die from dehydration.

Damn. Where has the time gone? Todd Gurley and Dez Bryant are HOF eligible. Guess I’ll go put some Metamucil in my coffee and complain about how the new weatherman on the local news isn’t nearly as good as the one who was there 20 years ago.

Bree’s and Fitz are the no brainer 1st ballot guys. I also think Witten should be as well. Gore will get in eventually but he’s not a 1st ballot guy imo.
Keuchly should get in this year and he was just absolutely snubbed.

When will Reggie Wayne get in?

He only played 7 seasons, but he was so good the years he played that I agree with you

I think voters simply devalue tight ends, guards, and centers vs other positions. Marshal yanda was a 7x all pro, sb winner, and didn't even get in yet.
