1000's more out there like him,

Uh, no. 1000's of high school heroes that dominate 15-17 year old kids, but not 1000's that dominate the college game. Marcus Dupree was as big as the linebackers that he ran over, but stronger. Marcus Dupree was faster than the cornerbacks and safeties that tried to catch him in the open field. He showed in his freshman year of college that he was the real deal.

Unfortunately, he was way too talented so he never had to work for anything. He got too fat and got hurt. He had leeches milking him dry and giving him terrible advice. It's really a shame. As a 20 year old he was playing well in professional football, the USFL. Imagine him as a 25 year old with a few years experience if he stayed in shape.

There were maybe 10's more out there like him, Cecil Collins being one of them.

While Cecil could have been good I don't think he was as gifted as dupre.

Also Cecil only has himself to blame because the guy was an all around, low life, piece of shite. Marcus seemed to be a nice guy who let people looking out for themselves get in his ear.

That pastor's explanation for his involvement made me sick. Just a sad story.

Better than his son's explanation for the mortgage fraud scheme that he got off on virtually unscathed.

All good points. Cecil was a great runner, but not as physically gifted as Dupree. But to watch Cecil waste 2/3 years of football getting kicked out of LSU and McNeese State, and then coming back with the Miami Dolphins and he looked like he was about to become a top NFL running back, that just made me think of a "can't miss guy" who actually had the goods, only to blow it.

But I agree with your entire statement.
